Is this really what you guys are looking for at Arlington Heights?
A billion dollar dome filled w/ pretentious millennials and gen z idiots who are not even paying attention to the game, because they’re too busy looking at their stupid phones, making selfies and posting them on social media during the game #havingfunatthedome.
Really? Is this the future of the NFL? Making “stadiums” look more and more like Six Flags or Disney World, where football is only the second or third most interesting thing?
No, thank you. I’d rather spend three hours in the freezing cold at SF or Lambeau cheering for my team. This is what football used to be about.
Yes. But I'm not looking at it from a fans perspective, but from an owners perspective.
An article from 2018 had the average attendance at 67.4k a year, which is larger then any other pro sport's average.
The Bears max capacity is 61.5k. That is a loss on average of 6k a game, that's 60k extra people at your stadium every year, 60k extra food and bev revenue, 60k extra parking revenue, 60k merch revenue all lost. And really, lets be honest the Bears could have a 70-80k stadium and it sells out every game. So really they are looking 100+k in attendance and revenue.
Why on Gods green earth would you want anywhere near the smallest stadium when you are in one of the largest markets? Lamblow seats 81k; and that shithole was built in the 50's. And Ya I can imagine the Packers eventually building a new stadium. if the Yankee's, and Cowboys can the Bears can; they and their stadium don't hold a candle to the other 2.
You own a team to make money no other reason, don't fool yourself it's not about winning, it's not about tradition, it's only about the almighty dollar. The primary means of that money is TV and ticket sales, of those you can only effect 1 and that's ticket sales, and their are only 2 ways of doing that build a stadium that maximizes your sales and build a team that is fun to watch. The Mc's are so bad at handling their team they not only didn't maximize their stadium, they cannot even build an enjoyable team to watch on a yr to yr basis.
As a fan, I'll tell you what my brother in law said(he has gone to games there, and has always gone to ND games). It's not worth going to if you are in the top seats, the wind is terrible, and in cold weather you aren't drinking for fun, you're drinking to keep warm. So Ya as a fan that would likely end up at the top, I'd rather have a retractable roof.
History is for people that lack vision for the future. What's SF's history w/the Bears; losing, they lose at SF. It should have been bulldozed minus the arch facade and rebuilt into a modern stadium instead of that shit ass reconfig that added enough seats make it below average in seating capacity.
