Dazz Newsome brings competitive mindset to Chicago Bears
... The receiver had a productive career at North Carolina, catching 188 passes for 2,435 yards and 18 touchdowns. That included a career-best 72 receptions for 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019, his first season with quarterback Sam Howell a potential 2022 top pick.
Newsome was able to produce good numbers for the Tar Heels even playing opposite of Dyami Brown and having two really good running backs in Michael Carter and Javonte Williams be involved in the offense. He took advantage of his opportunities to play in a loaded offense that put up big numbers in two seasons under offensive coordinator Phil Longo.
"Really just make plays on the ball when it comes to you. It's somebody's day every day," Newsome said. "Like one day it might be Dyami's Day and sometimes it might be Beau Corrales' day and sometime it might be the running backs' day like it was against Miami. And sometimes it's my day. So whenever it's your time, when it's your time to shine, you've got to make it happen."
Newsome didn't take a backseat in that offense either and watching Brown actually motivated him to get better as the games went on.
"He made me a better receiver because Dyami is a guy who will always win," Newsome said. "When you see someone else win, you want to win too. You can't let him go on his own so I'm going to do whatever I have to do to win."...
