Chicago Bears have drafted 31 QBs in the Super Bowl-era — and only 1 has made 100 regular-season starts By Brad Biggs, Chicago Tribune | April 29th, 2021
The Chicago Bears have drafted 31 quarterbacks during the Super Bowl era, beginning with the 1966 season, and only one has gone on to make 100 regular-season starts in the NFL. That was Jim Harbaugh, selected in the first round with the 26th pick in 1987.
The Bears have used a first-round pick on the position five times in that span, choosing Mitch Trubisky, Rex Grossman, Cade McNown, Harbaugh and Jim McMahon. Grossman and McMahon are the only two to make a Super Bowl appearance, with the latter winning.
A snapshot of the Bears’ picks at the position in the Super Bowl era.
I read a few months ago that the Bears have had over 40 different starting QB during that time (draft guys and also acquired vets). The QB failure has just killed this franchise for decades now. I am so happy with the trade up to draft Fields. And I am happy with Pace getting him at a reasonable trade up value in the draft. In essence the trade amounted to us giving up a fifth-round pick this year, and the Bears' first- and fourth-rounders next year. Is it reasonable to give a 5th, 1st and 4th round pick to trade up for a franchise QB? It seems like chump change to me. Pocket lint.
