Unless Pace has got some weird unseen plan in motion I'm not sure this was a good idea. I know we need cap space but that's a lot to put on a rookie who might be an equal or better player. And who is on the other side? Ifedi? And what if either of them goes down? I mean regardless of his play Leno was a rock. This seems risky.
I'm a bit surprised myself...but we always knew this was a possibility. Leno was a good Bear and a great find in the 7th round. Be interesting to see what the team does next.
Some options to replace him aside from Jenkins in no particular order:
- Mitchell Schwartz
- Russel Okung
- Alejandro Villanueva
- Rick Wagner
- Dennis Kelly
- Demar Dotson
- Jason Peters
- Cam Fleming
Yeah, I think they need to sign someone. Borom isn't starting week 1 and Ifedi is a better G than T.
I guess I'm really surprised they chose to cut a 30 yo LT who has never missed a game instead of 36 yo Jimmy Graham.
BALLSY
I'm not a Leno fan by any means but Graham would have been a more obvious choice. Jenkins at RT to at least get his feet wet. I would have thought they get a LT in '22.
Kind of sad to see him go. He was a great Bear before that lucrative extension and solid all the way thru! Surprising move, lets see what happens next.

Agree completely.
Until I see an OT signing that makes sense, I disagree with this move even if Tevin Jenkins balls out at LT right from the get-go. Right now, Ifedi would be the starting RT with Wilkerson or Borom being the swing? That's paper thin depth.
