Here's my review:
Justin Fields: Friggen love it! There was no way I thought we had a prayer at him. I was convinced San Fran was going to take him because he fits that offense really, really well. I thought the QB's we had a realistic chance to get were Lance and Jones...and I really didn't want Jones. What do I like about Fields? Everything! LOL...he's accurate, throws a GREAT deep ball, shows touch, is mobile...like 4.4 40 mobile, can make all the throws needed, and he shows up in big moments. He's also TOUGH! He's a DUDE that guys will love to play for and make plays for. I was literally whisper shouting(my kids were sleeping) at my TV from picks 8 to 11 for the Bears to go up and get him...and they did! Tremendous job by Pace and Nagy. I was listening to Hoge and Jahns and they said Nagy started to ask about Fields as soon as he transferred to Ohio State, which was after the 2018 season...which kind of shows you what he was starting to think about Trubisky. Let me also talk about Fields intelligence. The kid is OFF THE CHARTS intelligent. I made mention of a test he took where he got the highest score...by A LOT, out of 6500 pro athletes. He smoked Mahomes score 130 to 108. Dude has a photographic memory! Some of the criticisms like his intelligence just don't make sense and are lazy and borderline racist IMO. Can't go through reads you say? Oh...well Fields had a higher number of pass attempts beyond his first read(19.6%) than any other QB in this draft. He also has a 69% completion rate on those attempts while Trevor Lawrence has a 43% completion rate on passes attempted beyond his first read. I can't fathom why this guy wasn't the second QB taken...and I can make a good argument he should have been the first.
Tevin Jenkins: The 3rd or 4th best tackle prospect in the draft who had a first round grade and was mocked to us at 20 by A LOT of people. Another DUDE who just wants to beat people up! Reminds me of Olin Kreutz and brings more needed TOUGHNESS. Pace also put Leno on notice by saying they think Jenkins can play right OR left tackle. Not only did the Bears get MUCH better with their first two picks...they got TOUGHER. I always tell coaches I deal with that I can't make their players tougher in the weight room...if you want tougher players you have to recruit tougher kids. Its that simple...the Bears just selected two guys that will make this team tougher. If you would have told me Fields and Jenkins were the only players we got in this draft it still would have been a massive success!
Khalil Herbert: One of the better backs in the draft. 4.4 speed and doesn't go down at first contact. More than 56% of his yardage came AFTER contact in 2020. 4 runs of 50 plus yards in 2020 so he can hit the home run if he gets into the open field. Adds depth behind Monty and someone who can come in and change the pace a bit with his speed.
Larry Borom: Only allowed 1 sack in 2020. Adds depth to an area that needs it. Could potentially be the swing tackle with an opportunity to slide into the starting lineup if Jenkins moves to the left side.
Dazz Newsome: Slot guy who can help in the return game. Another TOUGH guy. Needs to develop some, but is athletic and can do things in the open field
To say I'm happy with this draft is an understatement and its reaffirmed my belief in Pace. Hopefully this is the beginning of some great things for the Bears at the QB position.
