It's going to be interesting for sure. My gut feeling is that Leno is here for this season. Maybe a cut after June 1st. It's too bad they can't do a deal with A.Robinson and in the process free up cap money now. Then keep Leno this final season. I think that would provide better protection for when Fields starts (assuming it's this season at some point). I don't know that you'd want a rookie RT from college protecting Fields blind side at LT. Yes he did play a few starts at LT but that was it. I'd hate to see Fields playing with a rookie LT who is still trying to figure it all out at the NFL level. I'd keep Leno this year.

I agree with you. I think Pace/Nagy are just lighting a fire under Leno's ass, that's all. I full expect him to be LT this year and Jenkins to be RT.

I would agree but if he is cut June 2nd(I think) the bears save 9 mil and that can get their rookies signed, currently they are about 400k over the cap, and cannot sign the rookies

Team also saves $4m in cap if they trade Foles post-June 1. That's enough by itself to sign the rookies because only Fields and Jenkins will count against the cap (only top 51 contracts count and late round draft picks don't make enough to exceed the bottom paid players). I also cant believe Jimmy Graham is still on the team either--maybe Pace thinks he can squeeze a 2022 late round pick out of someone in trade.
In any event, we aren't the only team in this same situation and priority #1 for Pace going forward is to find a way to trade Foles. Graham and Leno at least add something this year; Foles adds nothing at this point.

They don't really have a #2 TE so Graham has a purpose on the field that Foles doesnt.

Foles should be gone no matter what.
Yeah, they obviously kept Graham because we literally have no other TEs besides UDFAs. I thought Pace Pace might add one in the 6th but sheesh this draft absolutely sucked at the position--there was Pitts & then a couple mid-tier guys and then a whole bunch of meh.

The problem with trading Foles is no one sees him as anything but a back up at this point. No wants to eat that kind of money for a back up especially with the current salary cap. Honestly the only way you might be able to move him is with some weird Brock Osweiler trade where you effectively send the receiving team a draft pick to eat the contract.

His salary this year to a new team is $4.0m which is dirt cheap for a vet backup (recall the Bears paid Chase Daniel $7m a few years ago). Bears have already paid his signing bonus and eat the dead cap for that. It's $4.0m next year too with only $1m guaranteed.
