Many had Justin Fields as the #2 QB talent in this draft.
I am stunned that the Bears were able to pull this off.
LINK Bears pull off shocking trade with Giants to get QB Justin Fields with 11th overall pick The Bears pulled off a huge trade during the first round of the NFL Draft
1. Jaguars: Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson Grade: A+ Lawrence will change the dynamic of this franchise for the next decade. They will win a Super Bowl.
2. Jets: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU Grade: B I like him as a player, but I would have taken Justin Fields in this spot. Fields will be a better quarterback.
11. Bears: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State Grade: A They gave up a lot, but they ended up with the second-best quarterback in the draft. It's a bold move, but necessary.

Watching the NFLN post-day1 wrap-up and they are totally gushing about the move. Everyone saying "Bears won Day 1" and "the steal of the draft".
It's rare to hear the Bears being talked about so much in a positive light. This was a solid move by Pace and I give him a lot of credit.
This was an incredible day 1 for us. Only time will tell, but props to Pace for pulling this one. Fields was maybe my fav QB, so as I was pro-Watson, I see them as somewhat similar and feel like we got a great QB tonite!
I'm so pumped I can't believe he slipped. I am no expert but he seemed like sure fire #2 QB. I keep seeing "Bears gave up the farm". I didn't think it seemed like a huge package even before I saw the pick. People pay way more to move up into Top 10 area. Can't believe we have a QB like this. So excited to see the next couple rounds unfold.
Just comparing the rookie QB situation, this one seems vastly better. That was Foxs last hoorah and Pace 1st... Glennon is not even remotely to Dalton (Foles). This could turn out all right for our beloved Bears.
Once Justin Fields started falling, whichever team traded up to snag him was going to be a winner in this year's draft. It will cost the Bears a few picks, including their first-round slot in 2022, but they finally get a bona fide superstar quarterback prospect. One could argue that Fields is a top-five quarterback prospect of the past decade.
He is the only player in the PFF College era (2015 to present) to post a turnover-worthy play rate under 3% and a big-time throw rate above 8% among college football players with at least 500 career dropbacks. He is a ludicrously accurate quarterback who can handle all of the quarterback-designed run schemes that head coach Matt Nagy can imagine.
Fields’ processing concerns were way overblown and, frankly, false. He is that good, and he fell to the teens. This might be the steal of the decade.
Love that this kid is already acting like a pro's pro and he just got drafted. Not to high not to down; and he had a right to be down, he was supposed to be a top 4 or 5 pick, and he fell out of the top 10.

+1
I think that what we are seeing now, is a young GM who is learning and getting better and better over time. I like to think Pace is evolving into a better GM. And I want to believe that is the case with Nagy and his entire coaching staff - that they will always be improving and learning from any mistakes they have made.
If that is, in fact, the case, then the future is bright for the franchise.
Everyone, even the best GMs and coaches, make mistakes. What separates the good ones from the bad, is the fact that they learn. They evolve. They get better. In fact that applies to players also. It will certainly apply to this young college QB, Justin Fields as he begins to climb the QB learning curve to being an NFL quarterback. For quarterbacks transitioning to the NFL that learning curve is a Mount Everest climb. Many (most) fail to make that ascent. I'm hoping and praying for this young man to make it though. I think he has a shot. It will be exciting and fun to watch him learn and evolve. I hope Pace and Nagy make it here too. I've been extremely critical of these two. But I haven't given up on them yet.
Regarding Pace, "These are his players. These are his coaches. This is his team." and that statement could have an entirely different meaning if the team turns around now. Some day, in hindsight, we may look back on last night's drafting of Justin Fields, as THE turning point for the Chicago Bears, and the careers of Pace and Nagy. I'm not saying it WILL happen, but I'm saying it very well COULD happen. I'm sure pulling for this team, Justin, and certainly Pace and Nagy. LOL, all will be forgiven if this move turns out well over time... we could have several years of good QB play as a result. How cool is that? Mighty cool indeed.

+1,000 Ric.
He seems like a really good young man. My wife and I are empty-nesters and our kids no longer live close to us, but we do keep in touch. They are die-hard Bears fans too. LOL, maybe I did do "something" right raising 'em :-)
This morning I wrote them in an email (I write them every day) and said this to them:
"How about those Bears drafting Justin Fields last night? I was so overjoyed! I'm praying and believing that the Bears finally have a good quarterback in Justin. I have read that he is a strong Christian. When he entered the NFL draft in January, he thanked God for providing him with the friends and family members who have helped guide him along his journey. “God blessed me with the greatest support system anyone could have... My parents have sacrificed any and everything to put me in a position to follow my dreams. I can never truly repay them, but I hope I’ve made them proud; I will continue to strive daily to be a ‘light on the hill,’ as I was raised.” And last night, after the Chicago Bears drafted him he said,"I'm the kind of guy that thinks that everything happens for a reason... So I think this is God's plan for me to be a Bear. I'm more than excited and I'm more than ready to get up there for sure."
Let's keep Justin in our prayers as he transitions from college to life on a national stage in the NFL as the quarterback of the Chicago Bears. There will probably be a lot of trials and temptations ahead for him. Pray that he stays true to the Lord on the life journey ahead. I do hope he is also successful as the Bears quarterback."
This Justin Fields does sound like an emotionally mature guy, Ric. He wants to learn. I hope and pray that our coaching staff can develop him because I think this kid will put in the work hard to learn his craft at the NFL level. And I believe he has the God-given raw talent to develop properly. Obviously he has a long hard learning curve ahead as he transitions from college ball to being a legit NFL franchise QB. But I think he has a shot. It will be fun (I hope) watching him grow and learn and develop. I am excited.
