That's my gut feeling as well.  Trubisky was a bust but it's not like GMs never make mistakes - especially trying to draft a franchise QB.  One thing to watch in THIS draft is how Pace goes about fixing that mistake.  Pace was "all in" on Trubisky and in hindsight that was a bad move.  But I do kind of like how Pace does go all in when he believes in a player.  It could work to the Bears advantage in finally drafting a good QB.  Yes, it's still a long shot.  Always is for any GM to get a true franchise QB.  We understand that.  But if the coaches and Pace (and the Bears scouts) see a guy who is the answer to the QB nightmare here - Pace will do everything possible to get that guy in this draft.  Could be a good thing.

And I do go along with the point mpbears68 made about Pace not being on the hot seat this year.  The Bears chose to stick with him in 2021.  They chose to let him take another swing at solving the QB nightmare here.  If they do that then it makes sense to let him and Nagy have time to develop that guy.  riczaj01 has made the point many times over the years that constant turnover of GM/HCs isn't necessarily the best thing for a franchise.  The Lions are the poster boy for that franchise model.
