But....
What if Pace/Nagy are more safe than we realize?
What is the two of them after the season said something like...."We won 8 games with a bad QB situation, which we admit we had a hand in creating. If we can make changes we can keep building up instead of tearing down."
I can then see either thing happening: (1) Pace doesn't draft a QB but instead team builds, knowing that management will give them a year to build a team to support a QB. Maybe this involves a bridge QB like Minshew with Foles as #2 as well as new OTs and a few pieces on OFF/DEF. Next season Pace drafts the QB. (2) Pace does draft a QB, knowing that they will have time to develop that QB in the OFF and to build around him with new pieces (OTs/WR/ and some defenders.)
Frightening to consider. We fans might think they are at more risk of getting fired than they really are.

That could be. The McCaskey family has the cash cow providing money with 8-8 seasons so there is no "hot seat" on ownership to do anything. That is reality. We as fans assume they care. And I'm sure they do care to a point. But looking at the franchise since George Halas gave control up to the McCaskey family I'm not sure they care that much. Sure, it would be a nice thing (to the fam) to win more. But the money is there no matter how many mediocre years go by. So sure. Pace and Nagy could be here for more years.
The question is whether or not Pace has the ability to draft a quality franchise QB - or not. And then build an offense around that guy. And have the coaching staff to develop the kid. Man, I see nothing to support that though. I don't see that in Pace. I don't see that in Nagy. But whatcha gonna do as a fan? Nothing you really can do. Just watch the train wreck repeated as it has over the last 30+ years here. And the family is never going to give up Papa Bear's cash cow franchise. The money keeps coming in so why would they?

There's no point in giving Ryan Pace more time if you're not gonna give him more time. There's no point in giving him another shot at QB if you aren't gonna see it through (figure 3 years).
This seems blatantly obvious to me but is it to George McDoofus and Teddy the Accountant? I dunno. I just know it was stupid to retain the current regime if you're just gonna fire them after a disappointing 2021. Cuz the chance of being a legit contender in 2021 are pretty slim.

Thats why I think Pace is safer than Nagy going forward, especially because ever since Pace was able to pick his own coach (not saddled with Fox) he's made the playoffs two times. (I don't care if you say they didn't "deserve it" the second time, the NFL decided they did). Pace can honestly say:
"Ever since I've had total control we are 8 games over .500. Yes I messed up the Mitch pick but I should get another chance to try again."
The question is do the McCaskys feel the same way. I think the refusal to say anything about contacts for Pace/Nagy means they still have time and rope to run with.

Even though I've complained about Ryan Pace once ownership decided to stick with him I hope they told him they were sticking with him. By that I mean I hope he's not under pressure to "win now or be fired". That would be stupid. Barring a miracle resurgence by Foles or some crazy Dak/Watson scenario, we aren't in a position to compete in 2021. So let's not be stupid and squander draft capital and/or cap space on desperate moves.
I'm hoping this Champ Bailey thing plays out and we get 2 extra 3rd round picks out of it. If Pace doesn't do anything dumb in FA, we should be able to harvest a couple more comp picks for 2022 this offseason.
Let's get a little younger, put in a couple solid drafts, and most importantly INVEST IN QB. Hopefully we can then be on the upswing just as Aaron Rodgers is starting to decline in a couple years.
