I'd kick the tires on John Ross, a 1 year prove it/last chance contract. Take a long look at TY Hilton if he hits FA. Thoughts on Josh Reynolds, tall deep threat? JuJu Smith-Schuster will hit FA with Steelers cap woes. Marvin Jones might work as a bigger body chain mover. I feel there are options other than overpaying ARob in a panic.
If anything, as it seems obvious ARob wants out of the Bears more than he likes Chicago, tag him and dangle him as a sign and trade kind of deal.

Definitely need an OT. If the price is right I'd consider Will Fuller in FA. Fuller, Mooney and some sort of WR with decent speed in draft would make this offense look way different.
Don't get me wrong, I love ARob.. but theres options out there. Also system matters a ton and as ric always says, ARob may be a beast but he isn't what Nagy wants in a #1 WR.
It's like when Martz refused to use Olsen and we shipped him out. The architect refuses to utilize him because he doesn't fit in his idea of his scheme. I hope we get a decent comp pick from him and I really hope he has massive success wherever he goes.
Let's be honest about this. Pace screwed this up badly. He extended a 2nd string RB and has ignored any talk with contract extension for a #1 WR.
ARob has finished #5 in the top 5 WR in the NFL..
5. ALLEN ROBINSON II, CHICAGO BEARS
The fact that Robinson was able to put up the numbers he did with the quarterback situation he had is quite impressive. Robinson was responsible for over half of the first downs and touchdowns generated by the Chicago Bears' wide receiver unit this year. Seventeen of his 68 first downs and touchdowns this past year stemmed from an inaccurately thrown ball, tying for the second-most in the entire league. Whether it’s from Chicago or someone else, Robinson, an impending free agent, earned himself a big payday.
If the plan is to draft a QB. He needs to have reliable targets he can throw too. Robinson has proved he is reliable as well as level headed. Mooney is a good WR but he is no #1.
+1
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. All I know is that bringing in a new QB to play behind an OL with problems (both tackle positions need high-quality upgrades) and not enough skill-position support = FAILURE. Period.
You know, it's difficult enough to have any QB succeed at the NFL level - even with a good OL and weapons. The bust rate is high. But when you lump in the perennial Bears issues that we have all witnessed these past 30+ seasons, well, there is NO WAY any QB is gonna succeed here without a base-level of support. Ain't happening. We've seen the failures spanning decades.
Is AR deserving of the $$$ he's asking? I don't know. I don't even care at this point. We need at least one guy who is at AR's level to throw to. I'm so frustrated watching guys like in the playoff game last week who are just not good enough.
I'll be honest. I don't understand the Bears thinking these past 30 years. We suck on offense most years and it's not rocket science understanding why. No QB. Usually problems with pass protection. Sub-standard skill players. Why on earth would we THINK we can be successful on offense doing it THAT way? Stupid.
LOL, it's like wondering why your car has problems but you don't have any tires on the car or an engine. LOL, why on earth would you THINK it should work well and get you where you want to go? Pace just dazzles me. This is NFL 101 stuff. If he can't get it done then George needs to get a guy here who CAN get it done. SMH. This is Pace's 7th year here. All I see is a sorry mess.

I have mocked this a couple of times but a decent and ok consolation prize would be Nelson Agholor. He has good speed and has had good stats with the Eagles & Raiders. He would come a lot cheaper. You could give him a 3 year contract but only guarantee money through the 2nd season and make the signing bonus small enough that the prorated 3rd year portion isn´t terrible.
6 td's, that's the # that matters, and that doesn't earn someone 18mil.
So are you saying DeAndre Hopkins is bad because he scored 6 TDs? He has an average yearly salary of $27,250,000.
Amari Cooper has only 5 TD's scored with an average yearly salary of $20,000,000.
Julio Jones only had one season of 10+ TD's and is in the range of Allen Robinson and he's averaging $22,000,000 a year...
This is a new era of Football ric. You're not going to get far with average joes like Mooney, Miller, and Wims ( If we keep him ). It also takes 3+ years for a WR to fully develop. If Pace is truly competing, you need the best piece of the offense to stick around.
No. I have never said ARob is bad to begin with; saying he's not top 5 is not saying he's bad. I believe I've said I think a team will pay 18mil to him but it shouldn't be the Bears.
What I've said he won't get used in Nagy's O w/Foles as the starting QB to be worth 18mil. Were you watching the games this year; or were to just to busy bitching you to actually pay attention. When Foles was the QB ARob's production dropped, the attention he got from the QB dropped. Nagy is a Reid disciple and he doesn't want the primary target to be a possession WR, so why pay 18mil for one?
You aren't paying attention to the conversation motm so I'm done.
I've seen it mentioned several times now that Nagy doesn't want a Robinson type of WR in his offense, but according to the all-knowing wikipedia, Nagy was signed about 2 months before Robinson in 2018. Wouldn't that imply that Nagy is ok with a Robinson type of WR in his offense? Certainly he had a say in signing Robinson.

Like Sammy Watkins, Will Fuller is always hurt. And I don't give a crap what "Nagy wants". Nagy may only be here one more season.
I honestly see a tag and trade in Robinson's future.
Regardless of what we want, regardless of the fact Pace/Nagy may only be here one season, regardless of all that, it seems the most likely scenario.
The Bears will have to sign a WR which would eat into their compensatory pick calculation. If you tag Robinson, I think we can all agree, he won't sign it or play on it. The Bears should be able to get quality compensation for him in a trade and the draft has quality WRs again this year.

It is what Nagy wants though, I mean I'm not a fan of Nagy at all. I like Pace a lot and outside of Trubisky (missing on QBs happens a lot) I think his biggest mistake is Nagy. But hes the coach and he'll be involved in shaping the roster. Unless Pace is gonna fire Nagy and get a few more years from the FO their futures are tied and Nagy will be involved.

Think about what the roster was the previous year for Chicago. That was the Wheaton/Bellemy/ZMiller year. They took a shot at ARob just to try and get a legit weapon to throw to and the previous year ARob had been seriously injured and no one knew what was going to happen. And remember that same year they also brought in TGabriel and Trey Burton.
ARob: 12 GS 55 rec 754 yards 4 td, & 1 for 9 yards and 0 td
TBurt: 16 GS 54 rec 569 yards, 6 td, & 1 for 2 yards and 0 td
Do those stats look like they ever wanted ARob to be the primary weapon? All 3 had a role to play and none were meant to be more important then the other.
All 3 of those guys had 4 years played at that time. That could have been taken to be they were all meant weapons on O for years to come; none really more then the other. But who did they draft in 2018? Anthony Miller(who they traded up for) and Wims; are either of those guys speed WR's? Who do you really think they were looking to replace sooner then later TGab or ARob? They had no idea if ARob would have properly healed or been the guy he was in Jax even if he was. They were already looking for his replacement. But what happened instead? TGab got hurt, and TBurt couldn't handle the pressure AND kept getting hurt.
ARob had to take on his role and the TE while AMil had to try and take on the speed role and ARob role bc HP Holtz wasn't ready for the job. But looking at the #'s of TGab/AMill combined they aren't that far off from ARob; again they weren't looking for just 1 guy to be THE GUY; they wanted 3, but the TE position was shit behind TBurt. And people talk about how Tru took a step back that year, and no wonder the team went 8-8 instead of 10+ wins.
Furthering the problem is that Mitch now has a healthy and reliable relationship w/ARob b/c he cannot rely on anyone else in 2019; this is exactly what Nagy DOES NOT want. He doesn't want A primary WR threat, let alone a possession WR. But in 2019 who did they draft; was it a speed WR or a stud TE? No it was another...dah dah dah...possession WR in Ridley. Again who are they looking to move on from?
2020 they gave up on that crew and brought in Graham, drafted Kmet and Mooney while keeping Miller and Wims, and didn't re sign ARob; why? B/c Miller and Wims and Riley were expected to step up and replace him allowing him to walk into FA and saving the team a ton of money that could be used to sign FA OT's or def players and possibly garner a comp pick. Why; b/c Nagy doesn't need an 18-20mil possession WR that needs 100+ rec's and 1k yards b/c what he really wants is the TE/speedWR and possession WR to all have similar looks/targets/yards/td's at the end of the year b/c the QB is supposed to just hit the 1 guy that isn't guarded.
But what do they have again in 2020? instead of one coming into his prime TE they have 2:Stud TE(but old) stud TE 2(but young), instead of TGab a rookie speed WR and 3 possession WR's(all young but 2 are not expensive). Pace/Nagy tried to redraft their dream setup from their 1st year in hopes that Riley/Wims/Miller step up. Problem is none did.

Ric, you sure expend a lot of effort trying to explain why Robinson "just doesn't fit" in the Bears O. Reminds me a lot of how as I was told Greg Olsen and Jordan Howard somehow "didn't fit".
It's really amazing. If you didn't know any better, you'd think the Bears offense must be just freakin' amazing. After all, they're soooooo good they can just discard weapons willy-nilly cuz they "don't fit" just quite right. Must be nice to have so much firepower than you can let some extras go for such trivial reasons!
SMH
If Matt Nagy can't figure out how to use a top-10 WR, then why the hell is he still the Head Coach? Oh and by the way, Robinson had over 1000 yards in each of the last 2 seasons, despite truly awful QB play, so apparently he "fits" just fine.
