No, but he's not 18mil a year either, it hurts the team. You are worried about age w/guys that regularly play into their mid 30's now, if not late 30's. Go look at the FA list on spotrac, it's not just QB's playing that long now. Hicks literally makes the Def work, and it's a def that actually works and is good. ARob is special on a shitty O, he's not a WR that makes the O work, and lets be real WR's rarely make the O work. OL's and QB's make the O work; you pay OT's and QB's, after you have them you can pay WR and TE; and if you don't have a QB to pay, you pay RB's. The Bears don't have a QB next year they have a Foles and some kind of Rookie.
You pointed out all offseason that there was no way they were drafting OT's or getting them in FA it just wasn't reality; and you were dead on the contracts didn't allow it. Why are you back peddling in to hopes and dreams now? Fire Pace/Nagy, was never happening(we all knew that after they backslid into the playoffs, bring back Arob at any price now?
How does ARob make Nagy's system work, doesn't matter that you don't like Nagy or his system; neither do I. Nagy is in fact here next year at minimum. He and Pace are fighting for their jobs; and Pace is going to give Nagy what he wants/needs. How does ARob fit into the Reid style O that works w/guys like Foles/Wentz/Smith(ie not just elite qb's) when it has the right pieces in it(ie a really good OL, stud TE ,then speed WR, then possession WR ). Is ARob in that system(you saw how Nagy envisions him in the O when Foles was running it ie a minor part) worth 18mil?
With Mitch in a run first, role out bootleg O where the qb needs a big possession WR sure pay him whatever; but w/Foles and Nagy calling the shots? The Bears would be insane to pay him 18mil when Nagy/Foles aren't going to/don't want to use him as the primary target. It costs them the ability to land a legit LT and other pieces that fit better into what Nagy wants. I've said I think ARob is worth 15 mil w/Chicago, and I think other teams will pay him 18-20; I'm not down playing his talent, merely that in the Nagy system it his role doesn't warrant that cost.
Allen Robinson on the other hand has had multiple 1,000+ yard seasons with the Bears and was healthy the last 2 years. The bigger question is, who can we replace him with to have similar results? You say the O has been bad with ARob as our WR, can you imagine him not here during the last 2 years? We go below 8-8 to picking in the top 10 ( Well the Raiders do )... You see how much impact he has?
What's an extra 3 mil. Do you have 3 million to add to the pot? In a hard cap league 3 mil is another player, maybe 2.
I'll ask this again, what was ARob doing when Nagy was calling his scheme w/his qb(Foles)? Not much, b/c the Reid O doesn't use the possession WR as the #1 target, its the TE and speed WR. Why pay 18 mil a year on a player that isn't going to be your primary target? Philly had Ertz and Agholor(sp?) and Jeffery; when the TE and speed WR went away and they just had Jeffery what happened to the O? It stopped working. KC Kelce, Hill then Watkins, the O always works, even w/Alex Smith as the QB and Nagy calling plays.
Has the Bears O ever worked under Nagy, w/ARob or without? W/Foles(his qb that knows the system) or Mitch? Has it ever really clicked? He has this great possession WR worth 18mil, does it work? No; why? B/c the possession WR is the only legit target and in his system that is the 3rd option. He needs a legit TE, a speed WR and then a the possession guy. Why would you pay 18mil to a guy that isn't the #1 option in your O?
Don't like Nagy's O; me either, but he's here next year at minimum and Pace and his job is on the line, you think they aren't going to go all in to get the right pieces for this O? They need 2 OT's more then they need 1 really good possession WR, and for 18mil they can get a LT and a possession WR instead of trotting out the same shitty OT's they've done for years which got Foles killed.
