Let's be honest about this. Pace screwed this up badly. He extended a 2nd string RB and has ignored any talk with contract extension for a #1 WR.
ARob has finished #5 in the top 5 WR in the NFL..
5. ALLEN ROBINSON II, CHICAGO BEARS
The fact that Robinson was able to put up the numbers he did with the quarterback situation he had is quite impressive. Robinson was responsible for over half of the first downs and touchdowns generated by the Chicago Bears' wide receiver unit this year. Seventeen of his 68 first downs and touchdowns this past year stemmed from an inaccurately thrown ball, tying for the second-most in the entire league. Whether itโs from Chicago or someone else, Robinson, an impending free agent, earned himself a big payday.
If the plan is to draft a QB. He needs to have reliable targets he can throw too. Robinson has proved he is reliable as well as level headed. Mooney is a good WR but he is no #1.
One solution of keeping Robinson is cutting some aged veterans.
Akiem Hicks - Will turn 32 years old Hasn't had a real impactful season since 2018 $11,500,000 Freed up cap
Jimmy Graham - Will turn 35 years old ( Wow Pace? ) Hasn't had a real impactful season since leaving the Saints $7,000,000 Freed up cap
That saves up $18,500,000
You get a legit top 5 WR in his PRIME that can help the new QB.
I agree, its time to part with both of them. But, believe we can get a little something in return for Hicks. He has been good and impactful this year too, visible when he wasnt in, but age is getting to him. Graham I would cut, he did his part and was impactful too, served his purpose. Kmet had a great model and Jimmy was a redzone threat at the season start.

Agree completely
A) Graham is a no brainer to cut. Nagy barely used him in the RZ after first few weeks of the season which is 90% of his game at this point.
B) Hicks, although still good, should be a cap casualty. Might be able to get a late rounder for him in trade. Can we keep RRH?
C) ARob is a no brainer to re-sign. I see an ugly FT battle coming here. Guy wanted a deal and will resent the tag. He's never complained once his entire career I know of about having garbage QBs throwing him the ball. 90% of his career targets have been from Trubisky and Blake Bortles....woof!

+1
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. All I know is that bringing in a new QB to play behind an OL with problems (both tackle positions need high-quality upgrades) and not enough skill-position support = FAILURE. Period.
You know, it's difficult enough to have any QB succeed at the NFL level - even with a good OL and weapons. The bust rate is high. But when you lump in the perennial Bears issues that we have all witnessed these past 30+ seasons, well, there is NO WAY any QB is gonna succeed here without a base-level of support. Ain't happening. We've seen the failures spanning decades.
Is AR deserving of the $$$ he's asking? I don't know. I don't even care at this point. We need at least one guy who is at AR's level to throw to. I'm so frustrated watching guys like in the playoff game last week who are just not good enough.
I'll be honest. I don't understand the Bears thinking these past 30 years. We suck on offense most years and it's not rocket science understanding why. No QB. Usually problems with pass protection. Sub-standard skill players. Why on earth would we THINK we can be successful on offense doing it THAT way? Stupid.
LOL, it's like wondering why your car has problems but you don't have any tires on the car or an engine. LOL, why on earth would you THINK it should work well and get you where you want to go? Pace just dazzles me. This is NFL 101 stuff. If he can't get it done then George needs to get a guy here who CAN get it done. SMH. This is Pace's 7th year here. All I see is a sorry mess.
In that press conference, Pace said the first thing he will do now is evaluate every player on the roster. I doubt you could find any Bears fan who would not rate Robinson as our best offensive player -- by a WIDE margin. Only an idiot GM would not have already resigned him.

Be nice to know the details of this situation as I agree with you -- Robinson was the no-brainer extension to do in 2020. Way more so than Cohen.
Adam Jahns of The Athletic: โMy belief is that the Bears have always been more than willing to pay up for Robinson โ as in make him a top-five receiver with his contract. Heโs worth it, too. But finding that common ground can take time. And situations do change. Iโm sure Robinson wants to see what happens at quarterback.โ
The team should and hopefully will part ways w/Wims and Miller, that means they would need 3 WR's. For what Arob wants you could get 2 good WR's and then draft one and be in a good position going forward. Talking Sammy Watkins/Kenny Stills or Goodwin type WR's.
And remember this is still Nagy's team, he doesn't want a WR like ARob as his primary guy, he wants his TE and his speed WR to be the primary guy. Look what happened when Foles got in, ARob all but went away, same thing happened when it was reported that he got more control of the O w/Mitch, ARobs targets usage went down.
Getting a guy like Sammy Watkins would be bringing in a guy that knows the system already and is used to being the #2 WR and #3 target and isn't a major step down from ARob; being able to upgrade the #3 WR position is also a bigger help then you can draft a WR in the mid rounds to fill out the roster. Mooney, Watkins, another FA, Rookie, Riley Kmet, FA TE(or restructure Graham), rookie FA OT, 1st or 2nd rd OT That is a lot of weapons and protection for the new QB(foles or the rookie), and something Mitch never had and this O desperately needs. You cannot keep running 1 #1, 1 #2 and nothing, it creates an easy day for the def. The entire point of this O system is to make it hard to know where the ball is going and make it easier for the QB to find the guy wide open on the field, it worked for Philly, until they got rid of their weapons, and it's still working for KC who is loaded w/them.
