Wth the way the NFL has set up offenses, I don't think you can be successful running an aggressive attack defense. Bend don't break, waiting for the OFF to make a mistake is about all you can do. Defenses can attack QBs like Foles, Mitch, and Cousins, but attacking Rogers and Mahomes leads to easy TDs.

+1
And I would add that the game has evolved in favor of offense to the point that teams are going to score their share of points no matter what you have on defense. If you can't score points with your offense, then you are screwed in the modern NFL. How many games these past 2 seasons have we sat on 3 points on the scoreboard into the 3rd quarter, or even 4th? Then we score a TD in garbage time but lose the game. LOL, I'll be honest. I'm getting pretty sick of it. We score against the bad teams. But we can't play teams like the Lions every game and in the playoffs. Man, you gotta have a powerful offense to compete. We don't have one of those. This is why we continue the mediocrity here. Tonight I was thinking about how long it's been since we've even had 1 playoff win here. Seems like forever.

No...you can...you just need to match their creativity.

Here's a great thread on how you can be creative defensively to counter what offenses do in todays NFL:

I definitely think there are ways you can counter it, I also think that playing an aggressive attacking DEF is the best way to get beat by the elite QBs. There will always be a DEF that goes on a run and shuts teams down in the playoffs, but with points per game going up on average year by year, I think more teams are looking to counter with consistency (bend don't break) rather than "single-safety single coverage everyone else goes down hill." Teams are looking to only pass rush with four guys (dropping someone into coverage to disguise when someone other than the DL/edge is coming) and drop everyone else into coverage.
The DEFs are getting more complex with more moving parts than ever before, and a good DEF can still smother a bad OFF.
