Wiederer: Fan Loyalty Hurting the Bears?

I believe the Ricketts family seeing how the McCaskey's ran the Bears organization as a cash cow for their own personal gain with zero transparency and oversight (what other legit businesses dont have to show their books nor need to ever fear an audit?) figured they would buy the Cubs no matter the cost.
The Ricketts have seemingly followed the Bears biz model from the early 80's on. Build a likeable championship team that captivated the entire nation (1985 / 2016) with a HC of unique character (Ditka / Madden) to create fans for life around the world.
Instead of making common sense moves to achieve dynasty status the ownership would stay 'fiscally responsible' and both teams would stay relevant and on the verge for years but never threaten to be champs again as ownerhship operates the organizations as a profit center. Both HC leave as legends in Chicago but personally frustrated & unfulfilled by what could have been.

The Ricketts move to milk the Cubs organization for every penny has been hastened with Covid. They have let players of real value inexplicably walk (making more elsewhere than what the Cubs could have paid them) and trade their best players for not even top draft prospects is inexplicable.

Could you imagine a Top 5 QB in his prime under team control that is considered at worst a reasonable contract being traded for a couple late round draft picks?!?

Rumors swirl as Cubs ownership seeks to trade other top players that had a down year in a Covid shortened season that what can be.compared to a baseball player's slump in a 162 game season. Cubs President and FO GOAT Theo Epstein surprised all when announcing he would be leaving the Cubs and walking away from multi-millions rather than have such ridiculous moves made under his watch. He knew the Ricketts were straight profiteers and wanted no part. The Ricketts family are disgraceful human beings. I believe they took their biz model from the McCaskeys even down to upgrading their iconic stadium/ball parks and their facilities.
