I addressed some of this in the mock I did Motm. Basically apart from obvious cuts like Massie or Graham I opted to trade Hicks for a 4th. Now the gray area in all of this is the probability the NFL owners will allow the CAP to to only decrease from 198.2 to 192-195M. That will give us an extra 16-19M of space.
I say Hicks and Massie or Leno need to go. That's 18 freed up. Jimmy G would give us another 7 million.
Some of these contracts:
Quin: 23,900,000 dead cap ( Why Pace? ) He's untouchable... Danny T: 13,450,000 dead cap ( Another bad move for an AGING Player ) He's untouchable
Do we start thinking of replacing Fuller? Frees up 11 million in cap space. He'll be 29 this year.
This team is not ready to compete and would be better off using its time to do a quick rebuild.
We are stuck with Quinn another year. It was an awful signing but I will say Quinn did come on late in the year with better pressure so maybe he really did have an injury and can be productive next season.
I'd look to re-sign ARob (should be cheaper after last 2 games where he wasn't a big factor) and I'd keep Ifedi who did a decent job at RT. That means you can let Massie and Graham go and save some real dollars.
I agree on Hicks--we are in a rebuild lets not kid ourselves and he's a FA in 2022 anyway. Let Hicks go.

Fuller I'd keep for now.
I agree with everything. We cant afford to let Fuller go, not with JJs health questions. Hicks is on his way down, this offseason is perfect for a move. Hopefully we get Goldman back. If we let Massie go, do we start Ifedi at RT? Interior looks fine. Need QB and LT with our first 2 picks.

We draft a T for sure. Along with QB and WR, those 3 positions are no brainers to draft this year.
Ifedi can compete with the draft pick for RT next year. Bars might get a look there too. Coward should be released--that experiment is long over.
Personally I would like to see the Bears approach this as a longer term build rather than a "win now" thing. I believe this "win now" attitude was a mistake by Pace. Just one example is the Mack trade. But the roster was not built through the draft as much as I would have liked to see. I want to see the team built primarily through drafting... have that constant inflow of solid young affordable cap-friendly talent. Then if you're doing it right in the draft, then spend your money KEEPING your best talent. That is the ideal anyway. Pace isn't an out-and-out bad GM (at least I think that). But he has not performed at a high enough level stocking the roster with the best draft talent. He's had some very nice hits, but a bit too many misses - and his acquisitions outside of the draft have not been good enough... too costly too in draft picks and money.
We need a hit at QB in the draft more than anything. It may take awhile longer to do that. It may never happen.... heck I don't know. But I do know that if you don't draft QBs in that first round then you probably won't ever get a great QB here. And I'm through with "buying" a vet QB. I hate that. Draft. If you can't draft then get someone in who CAN draft.

I wonder if Glennon is an FA this year? Picture that, battle of the colossus! Foles vs Glennon, Glennon vs Foles. O.M.G.

With as many younger bodies needed and not a lot of cap space I would float the idea of trading down and filling from the ground up starting with the OL.
Make some hard cuts, flush the coach, and prepare for a sucky season. Not a lot of ways around this.

+1
I think you're on to something there. I would like the Bears to build it right from the ground up. Obviously keep the best of the young talent that Pace has already. Just add to them the talent needed. Yes, that means a rebuild time period and I get it that nobody likes delayed gratification. But honestly, we are just spinning our wheels now with decades of Bears teams being mediocre. I think I read somewhere yesterday that the Chicago Bears have only won 3 playoff games in the past 20 years. We had the super bowl year but other than that we haven't had much playoff success.
So yeah, why not just admit the roster needs a major overhaul and do it? What we are doing now honestly doesn't make sense to me as a fan. Build a rock solid foundation of young talent through the draft. Begin there. Do not trade any more draft picks. Keep them and use them. I think the focus should be on the QB position and the guys in the trenches first. That's your foundation. Build out from there.
