It's pie in the sky thinking but I would like to see Zach Wilson and some semblance of an O-line. But nah, I doubt our guru's would know what to do with them anyway.
I'd LOVE to see Zach Wilson. But we have no shot at him. He's looking like a top-10 pick.
This is a very good example if stats lying. The bears traded 2 firsts for Cutler in between rex and mitch. I want to say 6 years after rex? That is 3 QBs taken with 1st ed picks in 20 yrs, one was worth keeping around for 6 of the years he was actually here. The other 2 were good enough to see if they developed in 4 yrs(they didn't). So what 16 of those 20 yrs(cutty was here what 8yrs?)
The bears had one of those 1st rd qbs on their roster meaning they had 1 or 2 opportunities to draft a qb in the first and didn't, but in one of those years if I remember was them giving Orton and Griese a shot, and the next year instead of drafting a 1st ed qb they traded for Cutler. If they draft a qb after rex in the first they dont trade for Cutler.
Cutler also got extended 2x's. The 2nd was a mistake that created a problem of drafting a other qb high after that. And before that there was no way they were drafting one high, they didnt have the ability to.
Their mistake wasnt drafting a qb in the first while cutler was here, but drafting but never drafting a qb in the 3rd or 4th, like they did with rex when they drafted Orton. They now have the option of drafting a qb in the 1st, but arent in position to get one of quality in the first, best bet it to hope one of the big 3 drop or grab one in the 2nd.

I understand your point. But ultimately I want the Bears to draft first and trade to supplement the draft as needed. The trading for Jay Cutler is one of the worst moves this franchise has made due to the fact the Bears thought the QB problem was solved and Jay would "get better" with time. Of course he was a tease and never did. Jay was Jay.
I would like to see the Bears keep their draft picks and use them effectively - especially those draft picks in the first two rounds. Some day I'd like to see the Bears skilled at building a team that has sustained winning spanning a number of seasons - and winning some Super Bowls. To do that you need a guy at the top who can draft, especially with those top draft picks. Sure, it's great to find good talent in later rounds too. No question. But the ideal is to draft your own top talent rather than trade for it, or overpay on FAs. There are obviously times to trade and buy on the open market. But ideally the primary flow of good, young, affordable talent needs to be incoming through the draft on a regular basis. Keep most of your draft picks and have the skills to use them wisely. Misses will happen. Busts will happen. But the percentage of hits versus misses needs to be high enough to keep the roster talent at a level to win at the playoff level. LOL, that's the ideal anyway. I realize we don't get the ideal in life very often :-)
The QB issue has dogged this franchise for decades. I've used that draft history site to look over our QB drafts and it's not a thing I'd recommend for any Bears fan with a weak stomach. Holy cow what a history of failures. And signing guys like Jay Cutler and Foles hasn't been much good for us either. I'm at the point personally where I want the Bears to draft until they find their guy. It may take a number of drafts but seriously, we've experienced decades of futility already. I am okay if we whiff on a few more (won't like it but I accept it) if we at least see the Bears make a serious commitment to drafting a true franchise QB. If they do that, they will eventually get a good QB here (if nothing else it will be the "blind squirrel finally finding an acorn thing). But if they don't go all out trying in the draft they won't get this solved - ever. That's just my personal feeling on it all. Try. I'm tired of getting other peoples trash like Foles and Cutler. If they truly were that good they wouldn't be available to us anyway.

Ric/JABF, rather than splitting hairs I'll put it this way:
The modern NFL is a QB-driven league. QB was always the single most important position but changes in rules and enforcement over the last decade or two have made it even more so.
There's basically two types of teams in the league now--those that have good QBs and everyone else. The former are contenders; the latter are pretenders. Bears have been pretenders for a long time. That's why we have only one playoff win in 15 years, and that one win was against a 7-9 team.
Bottom line: It is very difficult--not impossible but very difficult--to win consistently in the modern NFL without above-average QB play at minimum. If you don't have a top-10 QB, then you have nothing so keep drafting new ones until you get one.

Until we solve the QB issue I think we're just going to continue to have mediocre teams. I'd almost rather be a bad team than a mediocre team. At least a bad team gets a better shot at a QB in the next draft. Like I said in the other post. I'm not angry or anything. I'm just accepting the fact that the Bears are not going anywhere until we draft a QB who can lead this team for the next 10 or more seasons. I 100% understand that it's very difficult to do that. Hey, it's difficult winning championships too. But that should be the goal. Right? Achieving great things is hard in life. You still try.
