Hey, here's a great Greg Gabriel assessment of the Bears.

This was excellent! One think that really struck me, and reinforces my opinion that Pace is not the guy, was when he commented about the last thing you do is draft a wide receiver early unless you have all the pieces in place. Pace failed to properly analyze what the Bears had and what was needed and selected a bust wide receiver in Kevin White. We’ve been paying for that ever since.

I took a few notes of highlights for guys who don’t have an hour to watch this…

1. Pagano’s defensive scheme is flawed. You can’t have linebackers trying to cover wide receivers. As he says, you can’t have 4.8 guy trying to run with a 4.5 guy. The slot receivers must be covered by DB. He said Rodgers saw this mismatch right out of the huddle, and made the easy TD throw with Danny chasing the WR. The other TD with Woods also.

2. Woods is just a special teams guys. We can’t expect him to anything close to what Smith does. Rodgers exploited him all day.

3. Fuller did a good job on covering Adams 1-on-1 most of the day. Conversely, GB took Robinson out of the game. Edge goes to the DB in this situation.

4. First quarter ball control was phenomenal for both teams. Each team had only one possession! That is unreal.

5. Bears lost the game because of red zone failures. Nagy says same thing. Bears were 1 of 5 and Packers were 4 for 4 TDs in red zone.

6. If Foles never replaced Trubisky, Bears would have probably won 10 games.

7. Trubisky will be back next year for sure. (He did not say how the hell this is supposed to happen. Are the Bears really going to put up $25-30 million to franchise him for one year? Or are they going to outbid all other teams when he goes FA? I will believe it when I see it.)

8. Trying to force the pass to ARob on 4th and 1 was a blunder. Trubisky should have run it himself or looked for a different receiver. He thinks it should have been a run with Monty.

9. For the game, his grade for the defense was “D” and offense “C” or “C-“.

10. All coaches participate in developing the game plan, but one guy is doing most of the play calling.

11. The Eagles deliberately lost their game Sunday (used backup QB in 4th quarter) to raise their draft position from 10th to 6th.

12. Nobody knows whether Nagy’s contract ends this year or not.

13. In the draft, the focus is on building the OL and DL and QB positions before worrying about anything else.

14. If the draft, Pace will choose the first 4 rounds himself, and rely on scouts reports for the later rounds.

15. One of the reasons Trubisky played better the last few weeks is that Lazor calls plays that build on Trubisky’s strengths rather than asking him to do things he is not very good at.

1.  Pagano has gotten far less production out this defense than Fangio did (pretty much same players).  Pagano needs to go no matter what.  I'd add that Pace made a mistake keeping Danny T over Kwiat and that KPL was a good backup we let walk too. 

2.  Losing Roq hurt badly.  Thought Woods did OK but yeah he's a big step down from Smith.

5.  No question about it.  Had a shot to win and Nagy got cold feet just when he needed to be bold (he doesn't trust Mitch at all that's obvious).  Point is, when we got into the RZ after playing it safe to get there, he needed to take some risks to have a chance to win.  Weren't gonna beat Rodgers with 1 TD and bunch of FGs.  Instead, Nagy pulled Graham (why?), his best RZ weapon for Mitch, and challenged the goal line only ONCE--the pass to Robinson that MT jacked up.  Needed to take shots at the EZ when we had the chance(s) to do it--if it is picked, it's picked.  You're gonna lose anyway kicking FGs so had to risk it.  If Bears had put ball in EZ on 3 of those 4 trips, had a good chance to win.  Porr overall strategy by Nagy and another example of how he doesn't adjust his thinking in real time to the flow of the game.

6.  Seems so....assuming Nagy would have let Lazor take over earlier.  No evidence that Nagy calling plays with Mitch would have avoided the mid-season tailspin.

7.  I too am skeptical of this happening.

8.  It was an awful playcall on 4th and a foot.  Mitch isn't Rodgers and frankly I'd rather not have the ball in his hands in that sitch.  Handoff to Monty, QB sneak, or even a quick crack toss to Cordy asking him to beat the defender outside to the sticks--all would have been better.  Screams NAGY

9.  Seems fair.  Defense wasn't awful but gave up couple bust plays and blew 3 good chances to intercept the ball.

11.  Wouldn't doubt it and don't blame them.  That's a major move up.

13.  As it should be.  Should have been that way right from the start of Pace's tenure

14.  Does this explain why he's struggled so badly high up in the draft and done so much better on Day 3?

15.  Obvious even to us dumb fans but how does it help if Nagy continues to insert himself rather than letting his OC do his job?
