The greatest failure of the Bears franchise, that has dogged them for decades, is the failure to solve the QB position. It blows my mind that they have failed to draft QBs (other than Trubisky) on Ryan Pace's watch.
I see the logic in keeping Mitch Trubisky for 2021 given the options. But without having a terrible season and getting a high draft pick, trading up in the draft (which would be expensive), hoping a good free agent is available (unlikely) or being lucky in late draft rounds, how do the Bears get a good quarterback? — @sonic_brew
That’s the long-running dilemma at Halas Hall, isn’t it? If there was a clear answer and a certain path to finding a franchise quarterback, the Bears would have it made. There isn’t an easy answer to this question. I agree that Trubisky returning in 2021 will be a possibility for the Bears, but unless they use the franchise or transition tag on him — and I think that is unlikely — he will be an unrestricted free agent, and that makes it a two-way street. Before the Bears commit to pursuing Trubisky for next season, they need to completely survey all of the options and gauge the cost and how realistic each one is. One thing I will say is it’s certainly time for the organization to be more aggressive in acquiring potential options at the position. That doesn’t mean having a revolving door of quarterbacks and considering everyone who becomes available, but they need to draft more quarterbacks and that means more than just taking a flier on someone in the sixth or seventh round. The chances of hitting on a mid-round or even a second-round pick are not good, but you’ll never develop a diamond in the rough until you try. The Bears are guilty of not putting enough effort into growing the depth chart at the position.
Yet still people argue that building the team up first and then drafting a QB is the way to do it.
If I'm Pace, no matter what happens with Mitch and Foles, I'm taking the best QB at my draft spot in the 1st and worrying about everything else later.
I like how the recent air-raid QBs have looked coming out recently, and that might just be sample size or recent bias affecting my thinking.
If they don't fix the QB and find one they win because of, settling for one you can win with means a repeat of the past...how many years now?
With the importance of the QB position, coupled with the Bears failure at the position, wouldn't you think they'd at least TRY to fix it by going all out trying to draft one? It's crazy. Pace drafts 1 guy and that's "it" for his tenure here. I don't like that attitude. I can understand and even accept busts happening. Hey, it happens to all teams. But to not even try hammering that draft - that I don't like. Does is suck to have to spend multiple high draft picks on the QB position? Sure. But without a QB there is no hope for sustained winning here. I understand that a QB needs the talent around him to succeed. But it doesn't need to be totally mutually exclusive to draft a QB and also draft supporting talent. Hey, there are 7 rounds of draft EVERY year to do that if you don't throw away your draft picks stupidly. There's also FA to supplement the roster.
But go all-in on drafting at QB until you get your guy. LOL, otherwise it's like buying a new car but refusing to buy an engine to power it. You aren't going ANYWHERE that way. Draft, draft, draft until you get your QB. Don't be stupid. Get a QB.
And they need someone else to draft the next one. I’m a Trubs fan, but Pace has made too many errors of significance to my liking starting with his first round blunders to Glennon, Foles and Nagy. I don’t trust him to serve us well on his next an selection.

--------- I completely agree. The guy I want is Lance. Sure, it could be the Bears next bust QB -- same deal for the last 30 years or so, right? BUT, I see it as you do. It is like playing the lottery. You can't win if you don't buy a ticket. Trubisky is 99% going to be gone next year, so we might as well buy our next lottery ticket.
