Barring something unexpected like an injury to Mitch Trubisky, it looks like Nick Foles won’t trigger incentives and escalators in his contract that would bump up his pay in 2021.
That’s a good thing for the Bears, who could use a little savings wherever they can find it when projecting next season’s salary cap. Nick Foles, whom the Bears owe a fully guaranteed $9 million after this season, has a $4 million base salary for 2021. There are a bunch of bells and whistles in his contract, which the Bears reworked to facilitate the trade with the Jaguars.
Foles’ best shot at getting a raise in 2021 was to trigger clauses in the contract based on playing time, ...

That means Foles is highly unlikely to pocket an extra $500,000 for this season, which would be applied to the 2021 salary cap, and his base salary will remain $4 million for next year as opposed to bumping up to $4.5 million. His cap number for 2021 is scheduled to be $6,666,666, the same as it is this season. Foles also won’t trigger performance clauses based on his passer rating, and for team-performance bonuses to be triggered, he would have to have 50% playing time.
