The Jax players seemed to be playing hard and to win today. In fact, initially I was worried about them possibly beating the Bears... they came at us hard. Hard hitting for sure and the players sure were chippy with the Bears players.
I've been really upset with the Bears GM/HC/QBs this season - however - I have continually reminded myself that we needed to see the entire season played out and THEN evaluate everyone. So, I'm going to try and wait until the season is over before I make up my own mind about it all. I can see some good things that have evolved since the mid season slump though. Now that Nagy is not calling plays on gamedays and Mitch is at QB, the offense is averaging 33 points per game, including the first Green Bay game at Lambeau. The defense (prior to today's game) was 6th in the NFL in yards allowed per game for the entire season (325.4 ypg).
The Bears still have the Packers coming into town on Sunday to finish out the season. Although we may see the team in the playoffs too. That will be interesting also. So it will be interesting to see what the Bears do after the season ends.
There's no question that Pace, Nagy and Trubisky have made their share of mistakes. All 3 came to the Bears as rookies at their respective positions within the franchise. Have they shown that they can grow into their roles and produce championship level football here? Have they demonstrated that they can learn, evolve and get better - learning from mistakes? If so then maybe it would be best for the Bears to keep them in 2021.
If this turns out to not be a fluke and we go all the way to the Super Bowl than I'll eat crow but if it turns out how I predict it will. We go one and done in the playoffs and get destroyed than what did we accomplish this season? We have an aging defense with most of its core players 30 or older. If we extend mediocrity in Trubisky, we set this franchise back a few years. Nagy has shown he has no idea how to run an offense, and Pace would give us 2 playoff appearances in 7 years with only one division title.
I rather jump start this rebuild before we waste another year of mediocrity in player/coaches we know won't take us to the promise land.
Have to agree with Jax tanking by playing Glennon. Why would you do that? Minshew is their only QB who might have potential future upside so why play Glennon. He made a few good throws in the 1st Q but was downright awful the entire rest of the game. Mike Glennon nearly succeeded in throwing 3 INTs TO A LINEBACKER. That's actually hard to do.
For Bears game ball, I went with Robinson. He was the guy moving the sticks when it counted and Jax couldn't stop him at all.
Trubisky was classic Mitch today. He was good within Lazor's play calls but still can't do anything beyond that consistently. He missed yet another wide open deep ball (to Kmet) and threw another really awful end zone TD. It was both a wounded duck ball and a poor decision at the same time. Rich Gannon took to ragging on Trubisky without even trying to hide it.
