Yesterday Mitch became the fastest in Chicago Bears' 100-year history to reach 10,000 yards.

Mitch Trubisky reached a pair of milestones.
Not to be lost in the victory and what it potentially means for the Bears is the fact that Mitch Trubisky went over 10,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards for his career in the same game. He passed Bill Wade to move into seventh place on the team’s all-time yardage list at 10,092 passing yards and in 49 games became the fastest to reach 10,000 in club history. He also became the sixth Bears quarterback to reach 1,000 yards rushing in his career.

With the exception of the interception Trubisky threw in the end zone late in the fourth quarter, it was a super-efficient performance. He completed 15 of 21 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown and took advantage of his athletic traits. The Bears leaned heavily on bootlegs and play action as Trubisky was 11-of-14 for 144 yards and a touchdown on play-action attempts. They got him on the move and challenged the Vikings defense by doing so.
It was a well-constructed, well-executed game plan. The Bears were going against an aggressive defense, especially at the second level where safeties want to run to the football and you’re trying to get movement. Part of that is the running game volume for David Montgomery. The Bears are running so much outside zone now that when Trubisky is showing the ball on play fakes, defenders start moving. It gives Trubisky well-defined reads. There was a lot of play-action post/cross. The Bears were clearing out the top of the defense and bringing a receiver across the field and it’s a high-to-low read; it was very efficient.
He threw with confidence, too. The Bears were facing third-and-11 on the Vikings’ 41-yard line on their first possession of the third quarter. Minnesota had pulled within 20-17 and the Bears, who have been awful in the third quarter all season, needed an answer. The Vikings played an inverted Cover-2 scheme in the secondary. The Bears had rookie wide receiver Darnell Mooney widened out to take the cornerback out of the play, creating a window for Anthony Miller to run a deep curl at the first-down marker. The Bears were playing the tendency. It’s third down and they figured they were going to see Cover-2 or Cover-6, and they get the cornerback out of there with Mooney and there is the hole. Trubisky drove the ball, Miller made the catch and they gained 13 yards. When Trubisky knows it’s there, he rips the ball. He’s playing better, he’s being coached better and the game plans have been solid.
