@brasil EVERY roll out you do that, Mitch isn't the only qb to roll out and have 1/2 the field it is part and parcel w/rolling out, it's every QB on every team in every system that uses it. What Vilma said is as simpleminded as Madden saying the team that scores the most is going to win, except he made it even more so by making it sound like it's only Tru that has that happen when he roles out.
But you didn't answer any question. Who are you bringing in that will do as good or better. It's not Dak, he's not leaving Dal they aren't letting him; and even if he did he's not coming to Chicago where they cannot pay him the 35-40mil a year he wants. What draft pick is playing yr 1 and playing better? And I agree, he's going to get 18-mid 20's over 3-4 years. And for that money they shouldn't bring him back. But not over paying for a qb isn't the same as that qb being bad or mediocre. It's not kneecapping your CAP for a player that deserves what another team will pay them. Its why you don't pay Dak 35-40mil, he's a good qb but he's not Mahomes or Rogers good. It's why I said Mack was going to hurt this team long term w/cost to the draft and cap he put on the Bears.
back to qb
Foles is a worse qb, he has now shown w/out question outside of Philly he isn't even a quality backup.
The best QB in FA is Mitch, so if he's mediocre, what's the say about ALL the others entering FA? Which one you want? Name them, I could use the chuckle.
No qb the Bears get in the draft will be ready to play their rookie year, and it's likely they won't be as mediocre as Mitch in their 2nd year b/c this class is laughably weak. People are drooling over Wilson, a guy that played 2 games in the last 2 years, that is WORSE then Mitch's 1 yr. The one guy who' stock is falling is Fields, and that's b/c he's played poorly vs IU and Northwestern that might be there in the 1st. Seen what Ohio U qb's have done in the NFL lately? It's like Alabama QB's, if you take out Tua. When your team has all the best talent on the field those are qb's to steer clear from.
The guys in the 2nd round aren't high ceiling prospects that just need seasoning. I was all for the Bears going after Rus Wilson and Dak in the mid rounds, but fully knew that was stashing something for 2-3yrs later so if they developed you could walk on from Cutler. W/out Mitch you don't have even a Cutler lvl qb.
So again, what qb do you want, it's like saying i want a new GM and HC b/c these 2 have been "mediocre". Imagination runs wild w/what could be, but the qb tree is pretty barron, and one of the few pieces out there worth taking is the one you want to throw out.
I came across this today. Not saying Mitch is great or even the answer here. But you can sometimes get useful mileage from a QB who isn't lighting up the passer rating stats. My selfish hope is that we can keep Mitch until we can get a better QB. This has been fun football to watch since Trubs came back from his benching and Lazor is using Mitch in a way that plays to his strengths. I'm not saying Mitch is great, but this is "decent" play. I'll take decent play until we someday (hopefully) get a great QB.
Just goes to show how much the NFL has changed b/c of the rules. w/out question Mitch doesn't deserve to be put in the same grouping as those guys, but he's not 1/2 as bad as people make him out to be either, especially when you consider the team had a winning formula for him in 2018 and insisted on going another direction in 2019 and part of 2020.
I'd put Mitch in the same area as Alex Smith/Ryan Tannehill where someone is going to give him a shot if they have a need at qb and are willing to run a system similar to the Rams or Car and Ten they'll take a look while drafting someone in the next couple years to make sure if Mitch isn't the guy they have someone in the wings. Heavy doses of run and playaction and role outs to keep teams out of blitzing can make Mitch servicable though, SB mvp, not likely but that doesn't mean worthless either.
I think SF is an easy team to look at and think they might be interested, Jimmy G was a huge disappointment and Bethard isn't the answer. Another would be NE, they aren't likely to get a shot at a good qb so they could look at Tru as a bridge and a similar qb as Cam, but younger and a better arm. DC is going to be in need of a QB also, Haskins was a reach and an actual bust. NJ F'd themselves out of the one qb that is guaranteed to be day 1 ready, so they could look at him also.
