But (and I may be the only one here thinking this...)
I don't want the Bears to run a Mitch designed--run heavy--trust your DEF --OFF. I want to modern NFL attacked based around a QB that doesn't need the field cut in half to function. Just because that QB isn't on the roster doesn't mean you keep the limited one you have. If we want that OFF bring back Fox and Loggains. Don't resign Mitch. Take your next swing in the first round. Remember all the posts about Mahomes/Watson/Jackson/Rogers all being drafted middle/late in the first? What happened to those? Suddenly its just not worth drafting a QB at 15? Because Mitch has put together a few meh games considering all the great QB play around the league?
You are aware that the Rams, Tenn and SF and Car all have modern O's designed around this.
But I agree I don't think he re signs. Problem is there is no better options. You aren't getting a QB that can run a modern NFL O in this years draft b/c there are 3 that might be able to run it. And to run that you need to legit OT's so you cannot draft a starting qb in rd 1 even if they were there to run that O b/c you have ot spend your pick on a LT first.
The guys in the 2nd and 3rd are all major questionsmarks, 1 guy had 1 yr of college starts(mitch) then sat out this year, another is Alabama and most say he puts up good #'s b/c of all the talent around him, there are a few others but they aren't exactly what you want if you want a modern day nfl high caliber O.
There are no FA's that will do it for you either. Hopes and dreams in 1 hand, nothing in the other. Much like GM/HC sadly the Bears can and might well do worse then Mitch in this O system next year.
Settling for Mitch because you are afraid you'll do worse means...you've settled for Mitch. You realize that right?
