Nagy got us fooled with that Coach of the year shit. Well, as it turns out, no Coach of the year without Fang.
Exaclty. Nagy is a one trick poney. It may work in KC, but not with the Bears.
Reality is, and we saw it w/Lovie and that mid 00's Def. That any system can work w/you have studs everywhere. When on any given play you can win w/multiple targets at multiple levels it spreads the def to thin and they will break eventually enough that you will score. Lovie's def would bend, but there was so much talent at all lvl's of the field that they would rarely break and more often then not make a big play. Go back further to the Greatest show on turf, you couldn't cover everyone(unless you were NE and you filmed their practice sessions), Come back more recently to Sea def, you couldn't consistently score on them, they were just to good all over the field. But when that talent goes away, so did all those great hc's ability to keep it going.
KC will suffer this eventually also, the OL will start to fail, the TE/WR's will start to age or move on and it will be hard to replace them. You see it happening in philly, and you saw it happen when there was never talent to begin with in Chicago.
Priory: 1. Keep Pace, fire Nagy, fire Pagano, draft a QB in the top 2 rounds 2. Interview Brandon Staley for HC 3. Depending on new HC, attempt to keep Lazor as play-caller 4. If Lazor is held, retain Trubisky
Question, how much would Nick Foles cost the team if he's cut before the 2021 season?
Spotrac says this — POST 6/1 RELEASE
2021 Dead Cap: $11,666,666 ~ ($12M) 2022 Dead Cap: $2,666,668 ~ ($3M) 2021 Cap Savings: $-5,000,000
What does that mean? Are the bears beholden to $15M or $20M in cap over the next two seasons? And $12M or $17M in cap next season?
Looked at this a week ago or so. Unless Bears can swing a trade, Foles costs $14m in dead cap over next 2 years. You can try to unload him to a QB-needy team but it’s gonna be a fugly deal—like Foles plus a 4th for a 7th.
IOW, prob gonna have to package a pick to get someone to eat his salary and bears still in hook for his signing bonus.

It was a horrific signing. In essence Pace significantly reduced our cap for a few years with this signing. We have a guy who is a liability at QB so you really can't play him. So he sits on our bench eating our precious cap money. The Bears would be insane to deal away yet more draft picks just to get rid of a guy... I mean, how BAD is the signing when you have to pay people to take the guy away from us? What a mess.
Here's the Chicago Trib article from when we signed Foles:
"Thirteen months ago, Foles signed the NFL’s largest contract during 2019 free agency: $88 million over four years. He pocketed $31 million from the Jaguars last year, leaving $57 million in base value remaining. That figure has been slashed to $24 million.
What’s unchanged is the fully guaranteed amount remaining that Foles would receive in the event he’s cut: $21 million, which the Bears have spread over three years."

I think Foles is tradeable. Backup QBs can surprise you on what they are worth. Who would have thought Chase Daniel would get a three year deal with the Bears from the Lions?
Who would you rather have, Daniel at 4+ million per year, or Foles at 6.67 per year. Yeah, the Bears would have to eat that signing bonus.
Most likely though and I hate to say it, Mitch will go to the highest bidder and leave via free agency, and the Bears will have Foles and a draft pick in 2021.

+1
What is going to be tough on us Bears fans is if Mitch goes to another team and within their system he has a nice career, and the Bears continue to fail at QB for another 30 or 40 years or so. And just to rub salt into the wounds we have to watch a Hall of Fame career by Patrick Mahomes as it plays out year after painful year... meanwhile the Bears thrash and flail in the QB draft waters like a drowning man.
LOL, to be a Bears fan isn't for the faint of heart.
Well since the Bears offense has been playing better, what should the Bears do even if they do make the playoffs?
Fire Nagy and give Lazor the HC Position? Keep Trubs?
I do know that Bears need a new DC.
Staaaahp! Lazor the HC?! Come on now. And this defense is gonna look a lot different next year with Tommie Harris back! LOL...in all seriousness...when Goldman is back at Nose and Nichols can play his true position of end, and you have a rotation with him, Hicks, Quinn, etc....I think this defense will be much better.

I remember how magical Tommie's knee was.
OTA's: "Oh, it's 100%. In fact, my knee is so healthy, when I place it next to someone's else's knee with a torn ACL, it miraculously heals that knee."
Preseason:"Well, what did you expect? I had surgery in March."
