I'm tired of trading away draft picks. Here's a novel thought. How about drafting our OWN guys? If this GM can't handle that job then we need a new GM. Trading seems to be over-paying for what we end up getting. Sure, there are exceptions to that. But trading away draft picks can end up biting us. The 4 draft picks traded to move up 1 draft position to get Mitchell Trubisky (instead of drafting Mahomes) had to have been the biggest bone head move I've seen here in many years. Pace just deals away draft picks like spending Monopoly money - like they are not "real" or something.
If we don't have the guys we need for this team now, well, why didn't we draft 'em?

It is Lambert but take it with a grain of salt. There are some appealing names there. I just shudder to think what Nagy is thinking if he is going to scratch Bars again and put in Coward to be destroyed by Donald. At least with Bars he held his own with Vea after that one horrific mistake. I hope we at least look at a replacement level player if both guards get destroyed by Donald this Monday.

CP recruiting Larry Warford, apparently he did not opt out correctly since he was not on a roster and could be available. No draft picks, just salary. This would be an awesome pickup. Doubt it but crazier things have happened.
Cordarrelle Patterson helped reveal an interesting twist
For some time a lot of fans understood that players who opt out are not allowed to opt back in for this season. Once they’re out, they’re out until 2021. However, that is not the case. According to ESPN, there is a loophole in that system. Only players who are on teams when opting out are not allowed back in. Free agents on the other hand? They can return at any time.
Warford was a free agent when he made his choice.
“Now Schefter reported back in August that Warford was opting out of the 2020 season. But since Warford wasn’t on a roster at the time, his opt-out decision was not formal and is reversible. If the three-time Pro Bowl guard decides to change his mind, he could sign with a team, and there would likely be interest.”

I wish the NFL would re-think the opt out. When they set this up several months ago it was a different situation than now as far as trying to envision the Covid impact on the NFL. I'm not criticizing here, but just saying it was a "best guess" for folks at that earlier time as to what to do with the opt out. Now that the world has not ended with Covid in the NFL, maybe it would be a good move to allow players who opted out to re-enter the season if they now (in light of present additional info) want to re-join their teams.
Nobody had this figured out months ago. I sure didn't envision things to be going as smooth as they are right now... yes, there are Covid cases... no, the sky hasn't fallen as a result. Is it perfect this season with the Covid factor? Heck no. But games are being played and it's the best you can do in a crazy 2020 pandemic situation.
If a guy like Goldman would change his mind and want to rejoin the team, hey, I have no problem with that. This has been a learning experience for everyone. Let the players have the option to return if they want to. And if they don't want to, hey, that's okay too. JMO.
Looks like we are going to stand pat again. I understand the need to stop bleeding and trade away our draft capital but man we need some OLine help in the worst way. Maybe Pace will surprise us with a last minute deal, who knows?

The Bears have a lot to fix in the off-season. This season was over before the 1st game was played, due to the QB and OL woes and Nagy's failure running the offense (just another season of failed play-calling). It's a shame due to the fact the defense was pretty decent this year. It would not have taken much on offense to have made this team capable of a deep playoff run. The defense has kept us in games, but the offense is just too impotent to do much.
The offense is so broken now that no trade will save it during this season. The Bears need to pull their head outta their butt and seriously fix the QB and OL woes... and that's more than you can fix mid-season. The aircraft is in the air now, and it's not like they can change out the engines in mid-flight. At the end of this season they need to do that fixing on offense. I'm not sure Pace and Nagy can though. I'm not sure they have what it takes to build a quality offense here in Chicago. It's heartbreaking.

I'm afraid that's precisely correct, JABF. Was correct last season too. Even in 2018, if the O was a bit better than LOW-AVERAGE, we would have likely made a SB run (recall that we scored only 15 points at home in the playoff game loss and would have score only 18 even if not for the double-doink).
Yet, there are still fans out there who claim "the defense needs to do more" or "the defense has more resources" or any number of other diversionary excuses that are being made for Pace, Nagy, the QBs, and the Offense's general suckitude.
Newsflash: This isn't 1985. You can't kill the QB or light up receivers anymore. The QB can throw the ball away almost with impunity. In the modern NFL, no matter how good your defense is, it is very difficult to hold opposing teams consistently to under 20. It's very difficult to win consistently with "defense alone" anymore. I don't care if you have 8 Pro-Bowlers on defense, the rules as now enforced make shutting down a competent opposing offense a very tall order. Frankly, if your D is holding the enemy to low-20s or less in scoring then they are doing a pretty good job.
You gotta score at least 24 to win consistently in the modern NFL game.
