If the intention was to sign him; this is me waxing idiotic. I wonder if that was ever the case. They have Anthony Miller, Mooney, Wims and Ridley. 3 of those 4 were drafted in the last 3 years, along w/Kmet. If Nagy is staying and he wants to run a system similar to Ried in KC it's likely he's more interested in spending big money on a high end TE, and speed WR and then looking to keep Miller and Wims or Ridley as the possession guy instead of putting big money into ARob; none of them would cost what he is going to and you cannot keep all of them.
I'd take ARob over Milller/Wims/Ridley, let them all walk, Miller is injury prone w/a bad shoulder who knows when that thing is going to blow out again and Wims/Ridley aren't close to ARob even as possession guys. But it isn't out of the realm of possibility that the Bears don't. All that said, I just don't think that's the case, if it was why not trade him last year and get something; especially as it was all falling apart? They have/had to want him, it's likely just years/money and where they want him at and where he wants to be at.
Mooney had a nice debut--it was ONE GAME. Let's slow our roll there.
ARob is Mitch's security blanket and if they want Mitch to succeed and become the long-term starter they hoped for, they'd be stupid not to lock down the one proven WR they have on the team. The guy has put up 1000+ yard seasons with MITCH TRUBISKY and BLAKE BORTLES throwing him the ball.
Think about that for a minute.
PAY THE MAN!
I like A-Rob a lot, and it's a tough position that he is in, but you have to consider team wide needs first. Pace doing anything else would be negligent.
