Hey guys, remember when half this board was shitting on Nick from PS into the early season last year? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Such classics like ...
“Nicky K looked like booty. Reminded me a Shea in pass coverage, that's not a compliment.”
“If we ever have to start Kwiatkowski at ILB we can count on an additional 100+ yards (200+ yards ??) in our opponent's passing game. It is just painful to watch him get torched in pass coverage.”
“Yeah, noticed that too. He's actually a pretty good blitzer but he's terrible when asked to cover crossing/drag routes. Always too late and too slow to contest the pass or even to prevent YAC.”
... and more fun the deeper you read.
Buuuuuuuut now he’s our missing link? Hahahahaha
He was bad in 2018 but much better in 2019. Yesterday, Danny T looked like 2018 Kwiatowski. He got torched repeatedly.
If that proves to be a fluke, then great, but if not....

I can think of one common denominator between 2018 and 2019-2020 - and his team's D looked pretty good last night bottling up Henry! I confidently feel AP would NOT have been gashing Vic's D.
Kwiatowski might be out for a few games. Raiders thought he tore a pec muscle. So much for youth there. Makes you wonder if Floyd would have had the cover duties on that kind of play.
<fan the flames>
Still think they could have saved that pick buy re signing him and having him play ILB next to Smith. Guy was a jack of all trades in college, and known for his coverage skills.
I am just being the devil's advocate. I liked Kwiat and would have rather had him over DanT as well.
Not convinced Pags was the right hire as he’s not aggressive enough. The expectations were a middle of the road offense and our spectacular D will get us into the playoffs. Didn’t get a sniff of that D this past weekend
It's funny Pags was touted as a more aggressive DC then Fang and a D backs whisperer.

It's fine, I think the problem w/a guy like Nick K is that he was going to cost more then he was actually worth, at least that is likely the feeling the Bears had. He was a really good ILB, but he wasn't a special one. for really good 3-4 ILB you can draft them outside of rd 1 and it's a lot cheaper. Couldn't this year, so imo they thought Danny T could make it work 1 more year and then they'll draft his replacement next year in rds 1-3. Where w/Nicky K that isn't an option.

I completely agree that Fangio got more mileage out of this D than Pagano has. His loss was a blow no question.
But Fangio was also DC in 2018 when the D gave up 250 yards of YAC against Miami with Brock freakin' Osweiler at the helm and and got trucked by Barkley and the NYG led by a decrepit Eli Manning. Point is, even the best defenses and best DCs have clunker games. Let's hope Sunday was just one of those, both for Danny T and the defense as a whole. Giving up 400+ yards to Detroit missing their #1 WR wasn't an impressive performance.

That game was the exception game (damn you Miaimi!). If you recall it was a warm day game. It was the first time I had realized that the visitors sideline is in the sun and Miami's not so much. The big uglies were gassed. I hated that game.

Problem is Pagano is a very overrated DC. When he was HC of the Colts his defense was below average.

This is why we need a baseline of talent on offense. I love having a decent defense. But this defense alone is not going to win us a Super Bowl. I'm fine with putting resources into D, but you gotta have a clue as to building a decent offense too... that old Lovie Smith thing about relying on the D for your scoring sucks. The offense has to score points, otherwise it's like bringing a knife to a gunfight. Nothing good is gonna come from that.
