It was an ugly game for sure but a win is a win. W/ that being said, I just hope that this game was a giant wake up call for us. Let's be honest here for a sec, this team is nowhere near ready to be a SB contender.
I don't know if this crazy pandemic and having no real TC and preseason have anything to do with it, but some things gotta change.
- We need a pass rush. Stafford had way too much time to throw and our secondary was overwhelmed because of it. Mack isn't the same he used to and was almost non-existent today. And if this is because teams have figured out how to block him, then it's Pagano's job to find a way to get the front seven to be more aggressive. Hicks has been very quiet, too.
- Mitch still is extremely inconsistent and inaccurate.
- Our TE group doesn't seem to be ready. Where was Kmet?
- Nagy needs to stop calling those ridiculous screen passes. Did you see what happened when Mitch started throwing the ball downfield?
And speaking of Mitch, I honestly have no idea why he can't always play the way he did in the final five minutes. Maybe someone w/ more knowledge about football techniques could answer this (butkus3595).
What exactly is he missing?
On a side note, I am somewhat happy that Nagy had a more balanced offense today and was using the running game more often. Gotta give him credit where credit is due.

I really didn't know who to give the game ball to.
I wanted to be able to give it to Mitch for his 4th Q heroics but I just couldn't. Prior to then, he had been a wet bag of poo most of the game. Don't have in-game stats in front of me but I think saw a tweet where he was something like 8 for 20, 110 yards, Rating 48. The Bears didn't convert a 3rd down until the 4th quarter (0 for 7 up to that point).
I wish I could explain why Trubisky can be awful and inaccurate most of the game and then suddenly play really well and start dropping dimes in the late 4th Q. I don't get how a QB can look like a backup for 50+ minutes and then like a Pro-Bowler the last 8. WTF?
Glad we got the win but this isn't a recipe for sustained success. You cant have virtually no offense and zero touchdowns thru 3 quarters and expect to win very often. Mitch saved his job for now with 3 late game TDs . I still think its a matter of "when" rather the "if" though as far as Foles taking over goes though.
Deflated ball= Pagano and his shittrash 4-2-5 defense. Leave that hot garbage in JuCo.
honorable mention, Ifedi. I haven't seen that dominant of a run game in a few years for Chicago, and he is the only real difference on the field.
also honorable mention, whoever let Mitch be Mitch and start rolling out and running.
That's fair, I agree with both ^^^
Bears were running all over Lions in the first half and Nagy went away from it late in the 2nd Q and into the 3rd for some reason. As I said in the shoutbox, we don't have the QB or receiving corps to NOT run the ball regularly. Matt Nagy still seems to forget that at times.
I will take the ugly win. Got some things to work on with some real game tape. I doubted we would have NFL games so just a happy camper
That's a good attitude towards it all. The Bears won their opener. It sure beats a loss, or no football at all. There were some encouraging things today mixed in with the areas that need improvement. I'm not surprised that the team looked rough today. I think I would have been more surprised if they didn't after all the crazy Covid stuff and zero preseason work. It' a unique year for sure. And not only for football. My hope is that this team just improves from week to week all season long.
