Chicago Bears: How the Hopkins deal makes Ryan Pace look bad By Michael Guistolise - September 10th, 2020
Chicago Bears fans should be up in arms more than ever after the Arizona Cardinals extended DeAndre Hopkins. I join Chicago Bears fans everywhere in shaking my head at this point in time.
It was a quiet afternoon scrolling through Twitter when I saw the announcement of Arizona Cardinals wideout DeAndre Hopkins‘ deal. There was a very audible “holy crap”, to say the least.
One of the best receivers was in the league was getting an extension…with three years still left on his current deal. The extension was capped by making him the highest-paid non-QB in National Football League history.
I feel like Pace is at a crossroads. If the team does well this year and we have a decent offense to go with the defense, then this season could prove Pace to be a good GM and we'll all be thankful we have him. We will probably be clamoring for the Bears to extend him too. But if the team falls apart like a house of cards, and the offense looks like a clown show after Pace's 6 years of trying to build a decent O, then he may be done here. His contract goes through next season, but if the team craps the bed I could see the team eat that last season and bring in another GM to try and fix the team.
My gut feeling is that the team will do well and Pace will be fine. But this is the Bears we're talking about and bad things DO happen here. It'd be a shame to have to blow the team up when we have this fantastic defense. What a waste that would be.

What a shitty waste of a time of a shit article by a shit writer
“Speaking to his lack of contract negotiations, Bears Twitter then launched into rage and pitchforks calling for the head of Ryan Pace unless he extends the veteran receiver. Fans have every right in the world to be furious too”
Yeah, I guess the seven meatballs (including the writer) on twitter counts as that.

I think so, too. It's obvious that ownership likes him but 1 winning season in 5 years isn't exactly anything to brag about. And, as you mentioned, he's on the verge of squandering a great defense due to his utter inability thus far to put a decent offense on the field. If this season is another disappointment, particularly if Trubisky fails in his last shot this year, yeah I think Ryan Pace's seat is gonna be warming up quick.
As far as the ARob thing goes, I admit I haven't been following cap details carefully this crazy offseason. Maybe Pace was reluctant to extend him due to concerns about the overall cap going down next year, I dunno. But yeah, otherwise it makes perfect sense to extend one of the few successful player acquisitions Pace has had on the offensive side of the ball.
