It makes sense. It sounds like neither QB was clearly better than the other. In that case it makes sense to let Mitch prove that he truly deserves the starting role. I see no downside to this. If he fails then you have Foles to trot out to show what he can do. If Foles fails, then 2021 is the year you draft your franchise QB of the future.
Like it or hate it, it makes sense. It's not a "pro-Mitch" or "anti-Mitch" thing. These are the cards the Bears have been dealt for this season. Play them and see how it turns out. Could be good. Could be bad. We won't know until the games are played.
I'm fine with this decision, and expected it given the limitation of this year's preseason, AS LONG AS the leash is short.
If Mitch is playing well and clearly improving upon last year, then GREAT. We should make the playoffs this year with that. Could even be a serious contender.
But if Mitch is crapping the bad or even not clearly improving, then I don't want to hear any more excuses or sentimental BS. He's been the undisputed starter for 2.75 seasons, probably 3.0 full ones soon, so he will have had his chance.
We have a top-5 defense. If Mitch isn't getting the job done in September, Nagy & Pace better pull the plug quick. No more BS excuses.
One way or the other, good or bad, we should at least have closure regarding Mitch. I hope so anyway.
