Y'all can read the article but interesting how Mitch has better numbers than many of the recently drafted QBs over the last few years yet Trubisky is the one under taking the heat. Not trying to make this a Pro Mitch thread but it sure would help the Bears longterm outlook if he breaks through.
To help, Nagy and Ryan Pace brought in Nick Foles to compete for the starting position. I have been of the belief that it makes the most sense for Trubisky to start the season in order to determine if he should be given an extension in 2021 or not. I also believe his success is what is best for the franchise.
That said, I am losing hope that Trubisky finds his way into the starting position against the Lions in Week 1. I know it was only one press conference, but I could not help to hear the affection that Nagy seems to have for Foles. Whenever Nagy was asked about Foles, you could see that Nagy was giddy about having him on the roster like a child opening up a present on Christmas morning. However, like a present, you do not know what is inside and sometimes may be disappointed.
While listening to the NFL channel on Sirius XM radio this weekend, the hosts were discussing the Chicago Bears quarterback situation and discussing which quarterbacks in the NFL have the most to prove in 2020. Mitchell Trubisky finds himself among those quarterbacks who need to come out swinging this season, but who else is on the list?
Baker Mayfield – Browns
If you have been following Bear Goggles On, you know how I feel about Baker Mayfield. For some strange reason, the league gives him a pass compared to Mitchell Trubisky. I have already pointed out how he is not better than Trubisky at this point in their careers, yet Trubisky is seen as a doormat among most of the media.
Cam Newton – Patriots
You might be wondering why Cam Newton is on this list. He already has an NFL MVP award on his resume and has made a Super Bowl run despite not coming away with the Lombardi Trophy. The thing is, Newton has had a very inconsistent career. Not to mention, he has dealt with some injuries over the years. Not all of them kept him from playing, but he always seemed to be dealing with some nagging injury.
Teddy Bridgewater – Panthers
Speaking of the Panthers, they too have a new face for their franchise. New head coach Matt Rhule will be giving Teddy Bridgewater another opportunity to start in the NFL. Bridgewater came back from a gruesome knee injury after going 11-5 with the Vikings in his second season. Despite the great record, Bridgewater was not efficient. He threw for 3,231 yards, 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He added three on the ground, but those are not good numbers.
While with the Saints last year, Bridgewater threw for 1,384 yards, nine touchdowns and only two interceptions. His bad throw percentage was only 11.8 percent and his on-target throws were 81.3 percent. These are fantastic stats despite the small sample size.
Sam Darnold – Jets
Another player who has been inconsistent throughout his career is Sam Darnold. Career should probably not be the word since he has only played two seasons and missed time in 2019 due to a bout with mono. That said, Darnold was expected to be better. The Jets drafted him third overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the second quarterback selected (Baker Mayfield went first overall).
