Looking at Goldman as a young guy is like trying to look at the health of a bee hive by looking at a single bee.
He is a very big guy & he is an NFL player - these guys have an abnormally short life expectancy to begin with. We have no idea what he may have overcome throughout his life. We have no idea what his parents or loved ones health is like and what possible underlying conditions they may have. He could be having to choose to not see his parents for the next 7 months and you never know when your number is called. If you bring home the virus and one of your loved ones dies you always have that on your conscience.
This is NOT baseball. These guys know they are covered in others sweat, saliva, blood throughout a season not just getting breathed on. So seeing 15 of 33 Marlins test positive for Covid-19 has had many others re-evaluate what is important to them.
Me being selfish, I am bummed he opted out but I am a fan watching a team sport and whatever happens in that sport I can tune it out and it doesn't effect me (though some that know me would disagree:-)
I don't know how the Marlins are not playing for a week and reevaluating? I am pretty sure there is a 2 week quarantine and after that you need to pass 2 negative tests. So what happens in a week?? This has ramifications for every sport. Are all these teams going to get wins from the Marlin's forfeiting?
Lots of questions and not much clarity at this point.
