The Athletic recently surveyed 50 NFL coaches and evaluators for a ranking of the current crop of passers in the league, and you guessed it, Trubisky didn't do all that well. He ranked 32nd.
Trubisky fell into Tier 4, which according to The Athletic is reserved for unproven players with upside or veterans best suited to be a backup.
“I don’t see any elite trait,” a defensive coach told The Athletic. “Trubisky doesn’t have a great arm. Josh Allen has a freak-show arm. Trubisky is an OK athlete, but he is not this super-dynamic athlete. Usually, the guys like that who make it are mentally ahead of everyone else, but I didn’t get that from him, either. I did not see him diagnosing, getting the ball out in 1.5 seconds, knowing where to go with it. We caught him on a couple disguises. I’m like, what does this guy do? What is his X-Man ability?”
hmmm wonder where these people would have ranked Alex Smith in SF, or Tannehill while in Miami.... odd how these things were never news until Chicago seemes to miss.

Let's hope Trubisky comes into his own in year 6 like those guys did.
Oh...that right! If he does, it will be with some other team since he's in the final year of his contract.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. It’s been news since the Bears drafted him, and what seems to be the overwhelming consensus that the Bears over drafted him hasn’t changed.

Boy, this article does not sound good! Especially if you takes into consideration who their HC and offensive play-caller is. If there is one thing I learned about Nagy from watching last season it's that he really has the strongest desire to pass on nearly every down. He uses his RB not merely as an outlet receiver as he attempts to find creative ways to get him the ball however his ideal halfback is a dynamic pass catcher over ball carrier. That being said if last years play-calling trends continue it is one coaches opinion that Foles will be a disaster. The upside is if a play-caller will adjust to his strengths Foles could do well given a strong D and running game. I really hope that Nagy has evolved and adapted in the off season. I hope he has gotten over insisting on his system no matter the strengths of his personnel for the sake of the QB and for the D as well! Please keep the D rested!

I think we all pretty much agree that this is Trubisky's last chance and he is fighting an uphill battle. I hope he shocks the world and ends up being a decent starter for us. But so far he doesn't look like a #2 overall pick of the draft guy to me. He (so far) looks like a mediocre QB on a butt-ugly offense with coaches that have me scratching my head after too many plays. Add it all up and it's pretty grim for Trubs AND the offense. But then again, maybe magic happens and the offense & Trubs pull together and surprise us. But I can't disagree with that assessment by the 50 NFL coaches and staff.

It's pretty simple. There's some fans here--those that make every excuse in the book--who think Trubisky just needs "more time". They cite the examples I mentioned (Alex Smith, Tannehill, etc.). But they don't seem to realize that Mitch is in the last year of his contract and will be gone unless he lights it up this season.
So....any "late blooming" he might show will be with another team and won't help the Bears at all.

As time has gone on, the odds of Mitch being our franchise QB diminish. That's how I look at it. Could he have a breakout season? Maybe. But the odds are not so good for that happening. And I keep thinking about Pace making the decision (an intentional decision) to draft a college QB so high - that had minimal football starting experience. I mean, why do that? It makes zero sense to me. It is tough enough to evaluate if a college QB can ever be a franchise-quality QB in the NFL - even if you have 3 or 4 college starting years to evaluate. Mitch had 1 season. What on earth did Pace think he saw in Mitch to justify betting the farm on Trubisky? It was a very risky move that he did not have to make. I just don't understand Pace in making this move at all. I (like others) hope Mitch beats the odds and has a great season. Do I expect that to happen? No.
