not that his has anything to do w/UDFA's. But something that we should all keep in mind when discussing the Bears, and other draft picks.
the national big boards, top 300 etc, hell the nfl.com/combine grading system has very little to do w/how teams build and grade their big boards, and I bet none of the 32 teams top 100 are the same and would probably shock a lot of people over how different they are; let alone their top 200-300.

Very different, yes. I used the Top 100 Board from the Athletic and even they had guys like JJones and Mims are easy 1st rounders who went 3rd & late-2nd respectively. Once you get past maybe the top 10-15 picks, there's little consensus anymore.

ya i said top 20 in a tweet, but agreed. at some point it's about how the player fits into each teams system and locker room culture, and how they interviewed w/the teams. The idea that there are a lot of studs in each draft isn't really true, there are maybe a handful of multi scheme, smart, athletic freaks that every team can see helping them. After that it's all a crap shoot; and if the team guesses wrong, or changes GM/HC it can all go out the window regardless.
UDFA backups @ NT, ILB, and RB have a shot to make to the team. Realistically, that's about it.
PS is more realistic, but of those that get signed, ya the areas of weakness still on the team are the best shots. I could see Raymond from last year and the TE this year being PS'd until 1-2 years from now when Harris/Graham/Ben B are no longer around.
Absolutely agree. There is a whole business around the draft that has affected how people view the draft and it's a skewed view. I'd go so far to argue that there are NFL fans and there are draft fans and lots of times those two circles don't intersect. Draft value is only meaningful in context of the draft. Once a guy hits the field no one cares or remembers that Joe Schoblowski who runs a draft site thought that player was taken too high because he was drafted in round 3 as opposed to round 4. The coaches don't care, his teammates don't care, the opposing coaches and players don't care. But Joe Schoblowski gets to pat himself on the bat because he gives that team a B- instead of an A on their draft.
Draft capitol is maybe the only concept that interests me because more picks give you more shots at getting lucky (similar to how buying more than 1 lottery ticket "improves your chances of winning"). Now that you can trade them I think they increase in value greatly.
And don't get me started on "Pace could have moved back and still taken [insert played name here] and gained more capitol." Talk about a statement that can't be proven yet is taken as 100% fact by waaaaaaay to many people.

ya just to many variable's. It COULD be, and maybe is PROBABLY true, but there is no way of knowing. Trade ups happen, and other teams have needs and you don't know when they plan on going bpa or going after a position of need; b/c how they decide that is based on how they have these kids ranked. If the Jets/Pitt or the Falcons(who the Jets traded with) wanted the best TE, then the Bears have no shot of getting him; regardless of what some guy who works a fantasy or draft site thinks. And even if a few do have some contacts in the NFL, you have to believe they are getting good information and not being used as a smokescreen.

Sure it happens ever year and I just forgot, but I was shocked this time seeing players mocked into the 1st or early 2nd almost every draft I saw FALLING far, far from where you thought they'd go. That Prince OT Auburn guy was projected as a 2nd-3rd rounder and fell until the 7th I think.
OTOH, we drafted a couple guys in the 5th The Athletic rated as "7th-FA" prospects.
It's a real crap shoot after those first 15-20 consensus picks as you said. And the deeper into the draft you go the more far off the projections seem to get.
