Overview
Limber and explosive, he has the makings of a mismatch slot with the ability to stretch and attack speed-deficient coverages. It's easy to criticize Mooney for frequency of drops during his time at Tulane, but he took short throws and turned them into touchdowns of 86, 79 and 55 yards in 2018. He's sudden underneath and should fit right in as a slot, but he won't be able to outrun NFL coverage and needs to tighten up the routes. He definitely has a puncher's shot at finding an NFL home, but the slender frame and inability to help on special teams are big challenges to overcome.

BEST TRAIT - Speed
WORST TRAIT - Size
RED FLAGS - None
Tulane wide receiver Darnell Mooney enters the NFL after 46 starts in college, leading the team in receiving in 2018 and 2019 while averaging 16.7 yards per catch across 154 receptions for his career. While Mooney is a smaller receiver that lacks length and play strength, he’s a dynamic athlete that has enough technique early in routes to create leverage and create significant separation. Mooney has a chance to be a dynamic playmaker in the NFL that can take the top off the defense and create offense after the catch. Developing more consistency with his hands, improving his route technique/tempo and overcoming his slender build are key to reaching his ceiling.

Outlook For Bears:
Mooney would be the perfect replacement for Taylor Gabriel in the Bears’ offense. He would bring an element of speed that this team has not had yet. The setback in selecting Mooney would be either hoping he falls to the fifth round or making a move up to the fourth round for him. Don’t worry that everyone knows Ryan Pace is not afraid to do something like that. The Bears have a chance to coach him up in a low spot as well in a special teams role. They wouldn’t rush him out right away.
