Myopic people have narrow views of how things work and in an age of skepticism, people jump to conclusions regardless of the plethora of evidence and easily comprehended strategy.
And people love the word of ex-players as if they have any real insight to give on long term franchise plans after finding themselves replaceable.

My opinion has nothing to do with what Kyle Long said. It has been stated here multiple times before that.
If Mitch wins the job this summer, then great.
But he will have to WIN it.
My interpretation, one that is far from unique, is that Foles is the default starter until proven otherwise at this point.

I think the one comforting thought I have about this is that between Foles and Trubisky, surely ONE of the two can have a "good enough" season to run the offense at a high level. Maybe Mitch has everything finally "click" in his head, and with some upgrades on offense we see him shine this year. Or, if Mitch doesn't have that kind of season, then I think Foles could be the guy who steps in and runs the offense well. If either of these guys shine this year then I'm a happy camper. Now, if neither can get it done, then hey, in 2021 I'm hoping we draft a young kid who can. Hope springs eternal, right?

Long doesn't have a good track record of quality takes. It makes no sense for the team to have gone w/Foles over Bridgewater and then given Foles all sorts of ways out of this contract in the coming years if Tru stood no real chance of getting the job. So much easier and better to just give B-side the contract and move Tru to the bench.

Don't think Trubisky has "no real chance" of winning the job. Just think he has an uphill battle.
He has to clearly outperform Foles, showing a mastery of the O he clearly didn't have last year.
I agree that Bridgewater or Carr were better options in the longer term for the Bears but they went with the guy that knows the O best and that Nagy would have the most faith in off the bat.

Bridge/Carr are only better options if the team is already moving on from Tru; if they aren't then it isn't the better move.
If Tru plays at or above 18 then I don't think it's that hard for him to out preform Foles, if he performs like he did last year then yes Foles wins it easy. I don't think there is any way of knowing which Mitch we see until the PS starts.

Long isn't your typical ex-player. He has been a Trubisky supporter since he started and even defended Trubisky a few months ago.
I personally judge an ex-player's opinion far more than a current player who has to deal with locker room consequences and bring doubt on the team.
So if a guy like Long is doing an 180 on Trubisky. Things might start getting concerning.

Foles was great playing behind an amazing O line at Phili but he was hot garbage at St Louis. Whilst I’d be happy to be proved wrong, I don’t see him getting decent play out of this offense. I think he is here to push Trubisky and be a high quality backup.
