Former 1st round OL, on a 1 year prove it deal.

Germain Ifedi played college football at Texas A&M.

While there, Ifedi earned Freshman All-American honors by The Sporting News in 2013.

He was selected by the Seahawks in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Pace has made some good moves. It will be fun to watch the roster come together after the draft dust settles. Could be a very good team this year.

FWIW, I've seen a number of comments like this (see below) from Seattle fans. Sounds like the guy is powerful as a bull, but has a lot of dumb penalties. He's young. He's stayed healthy. But false starts and holding penalties have been a real problem. Maybe he would be better at RG for us? Could he help our run blocking?

"I like him a bit more than most Hawks fans – but Ifedi was just not quite quick enough to play Tackle – the quicker rushers always killed him. Most of his penalties (the false starts and the holds) were all to compensate for the above. Probably, he was always better suited to play Guard. Wouldn’t surprise me if he had a productive career still in the NFL – he’s a powerful guy, and he doesn’t get hurt – that’s worth something."

Ifedi was considered in Seattle like how we thought of Floyd - a decent starter but a disappointment for a 1st rounder (although he was a #31 pick and Floyd was #9).

Still, he has 4 years starting experience, can play guard or tackle, is healthy, and still only 26yo. Thought of as a better run blocker than pass blocker, though his penalty numbers in pass pro are probably inflated by blocking for a QB like Wilson who holds the ball a long time and dances in the pocket.

All in all, a good depth signing by Pace who at least puts a floor in place at the RG spot.

Sounds like a guy who could do better with a new team like the Bears. Powerful blocker. Maybe just what we need at RG? I don't know. I do like the signing. It's not like WE spent a 1st round pick on the guy. Probably a good signing for reasonable cash.

He's known as a road grader/mauler type in the run game (which we need) but a little shaky in pass pro, as a tackle anyway.

Seattle fan I was reading on WCG said basically the following, take it or leave it:

He's a decent starter, not great, but not terrible.
Can play every OL position except C.
Had some penalties but holding tends to get called on the Seattle OL a lot cuz Wilson holds the ball a lot and extends plays a lot.
Surprised they let him go cuz they don't have any depth at Tackle (he was RT last year for them). Their backup/swing tackle got signed away in FA for good $$ as well.
They wanted him back but were hoping to get him for cheaper (kinda like us with Floyd).

All in all, it's a good value signing by Pace here. He can compete to start at RG (prob against Bars and/or draft pick) and at worst is solid, versatile depth with 4 years starting experience.

one thing he won't have to be asked to hold the pass blocking to long; Massie found 2nd life in Chicago for the same reason, in AZ they ran that stupid 5-7 step drop back. If he plays RG, wonder if he can do the pulling if he's struggled w/quicker defenders. Should be interesting.

Could be competing for the starting RT and RG spot, and if nothing else the swing tackle and backup OG. Either way good move.

Yeah, Massie was a poor fit for Arians' offense in Arizona because it was a 7-step drop, vertical-oriented passing attack and he struggled with speed off the edge. Like Ifedi, Massie was thought of as a good run blocker but shaky in pass pro.

This guy is at least as good as players like Kush, Sowell, Lucas, and Larsen we have had as backups in recent years.
