This ranks up there w/"bears are finalizing deal w/Bridgewater" and "The bears have been for weeks trying to trade Mitch". I don't buy any of them.
I don't doubt the Bears inquired about Teddy B. I also don't doubt the Bears would LOVE to trade Mitch (Biggs wrote yesterday that Foles' signing says they're 95% done with him) but he has virtually no trade value. Heck, Carolina couldn't even get a 6th for Cam and he's a former league MVP.

I never said they didn't inquire about Teddy, I doubted they had a deal almost finalized from the start of the FA period. No doubt they inquired about every FA qb, or qb for trade. Biggs has been 95% done w/Mitch so I don't doubt he beleives the Bears are, but I don't look at Foles and say they are 95% done w/Mitch he's not that kind of player, maybe if they had a first and could draft a legit qb. If stories are to be believed one of the reasons Teddy didn't come here was they wanted him to compete w/Mitch, them being 95% done w/Mitch doesn't match w/them wanting Teddy to compete w/him on the same lvl that they wouldn't have offered Teddy 20+ mil over multiple years and asking him to compete w/Mitch. If you're 95% done w/Mitch you get Teddy at whatever price and Mitch sits, you don't give a 4th and 15mil for Foles, who can be gone next year at his own accord if you are that over Mitch.
I do agree they wouldn't get anything for Mitch, which is why I don't think they would even look around, it would do nothing but bring bad press. They know that after last year Mitch isn't worth anything.

You don't trade a 4th round pick, especially in year where your draft capital is already limited, and spend $20m for a backup QB.
As Biggs pointed out, that screams no confidence in your starter.
And I believe a big factor in Foles' signing is that teams are anticipating a truncated offseason so that put a premium on the Bears getting someone already familiar with their O-scheme. Burton said there's "90% overlap" between Nagy's and Philly's and he would know since he played under both.
OT: Bears regret drafting Shea, he is now thriving playing "pickleball"!!!! 😱😱😱😱
Even Bill B couldnt save him
OMG, thanks for the reminder of yet another horrible Bears 1st round whiff. Chandler Jones and Mercilus were on the board and Emery took this guy instead.

His cap hit this year is 11.5, next year is 15.5. it's not until year 3 that he has a cap his of 20mil. And after this year he can cancel out of the deal. That isn't a contract of the qb you plan on having for the next 2 years let along 3 years, so there is no 20mil. 11.5-15.5 is way to low for a starting qb, hell you insisted that starting qb's have to get 20-30+ mil.

His cap hit to Chicago is ~ $16m this year and ~ $21m the next two.
It would be considerably more except for the fact that Jax had to eat all the dead cap from his signing bonus on their books. Yes, Ric, if not for that his AAV would be mid-20s. Jax had to eat about $18.5m total in dead cap.

But his AAV for the Bears is not that...which is all that matters.
