The rumor of Bridgewater not wanting to come here cause he wouldn't get the starter job is sounding too true.
The signing screams "Hey, we got competition for Mitch but he's still going to start Day 1 cause of my ego"...
We don't have the weapons the Eagles had during their Super Bowl run and with our O-line and his lack of mobility. He's going to get killed out there.
Best QBs would of been either Bridgewater or Newton just for their mobility to get out of the pocket.
Not sure I agree on this one.
A) Bridgewater isn't exactly known as a mobile QB. He had a great 5-6 game run last season under Sean Peyton but has been utterly pedestrian otherwise. Last year was the only season he posted a passer rating of 90+. For comparison, Trub was at 95 in 2018 and is at about 86 over his career.
B) What makes you think Cam is still "mobile" after the string of serious injuries he's had? More likely, his elite athleticism is gone for good. And that doesn't even take into account his diva, me-first attitude. He's also not a very accurate passer so prob not the best fit for Nagy's system.
C) Getting tired of the "Bears OL is so bad" mantra. First off, in pass pro they weren't bad last year (much worse in run blocking). The season before they were one of the best pass pro units in the league. Same players. And regardless, we still have the ability to upgrade the unit in the draft. Let's give the new OC and OL coach a chance.
Do you all REALLY think Foles is going to unseat Mitch? No. Foles will outperform him in camp and pre-season, and Mitch will still be named the starter. They can do this since Foles doesn’t have the name power of the other FA’s because he’s never been great for a whole season. That’s why they didn’t bring in Cam. If Cam outperforms Mitch in camp and preseason, which he most likely would have, there is no way they could get away with going with Mitch over Cam. They want Mitch to be the guy, and by bringing in Foles, Mitch will remain the guy, whether he deserves it or not.
I understand your skepticism.
I tend to look at it a little differently. This move is a HUGE vote of no confidence in Mitch, no other way to sugarcoat it. No way Pace & Nagy would give up a 4th round pick and spend millions of dollars otherwise.
This move screams "win now" to me. You probably wouldn't do it unless you knew you had an elite defense capable of winning this season.
Both of them also know their jobs are on the line. A dumpster fire season in 2020 very likely gets them both fired.
PS: There were also justifiable reasons to pass on Cam beyond politics.
For those reasons, I think and hope they won't protect Mitch if he's underperforming. He's on a short leash.

That is my problem with us going with Foles. Pace's ego won't allow him to move onto a better player. We lost Teddy Bridgewater do to the fact he wouldn't be named starter with the Bears... Its time for him to admit Trubisky is a FAILURE.
Instead of admitting failure and going after an established QB or one with a high ceiling we go after a QB who's been thrown around in the league and a team so eager to trade him after only ONE year of signing...

Teddy has thrown 219 passes since 2015. I wouldn't give him guarantees, either.

A) Bridgewater might not be known as a mobile QB but he has legs far better than Foles to escape pressure if needed.
B) Cam may or may not be mobile but he's still a very young QB who was a former MVP and All Pro who had the highest ceiling out of any QB on the market. Personally I don't care about his diva ore me-first attitude. If you can play and give us a shot at the Super Bowl I'm taking you. You got to take risks on those players. That's how the Patriots were able to stay so dominate for so long.
C) Football Outsides had us rank #20... That is bad imo, we seen it during those Chase Daniels games, heck one of the reasons the offense worked in 2018 was do to Trubisky creating yards with his feet. This team can't handle pocket passers and who knows how long those draft picked Offensive Line players can develop into an average player.

Mitch wouldn't be the first guy to figure out QB after ups and extreme downs to start his career. Not by a long shot. There's more than a few guys rocking golden jackets that can attest to that. Im of the very strong opinion that it's in the franchise's best interests that we give it another go with him, but have a strong backup plan. That's where we're at, so I'm happy.

Yes he might of only thrown 219 passes but what is the context of that? Was he benched or was he hurt do to a rare knee injury putting him out most of the time...
The guy had an upside but injury has slowed him down.
NFL records:
Highest completion percentage in a single game by a rookie quarterback with at least 40 attempts: 75.6% First rookie quarterback to ever complete over 70% of his passes in four straight games.
Vikings Record
Most passing yards by a rookie quarterback: 2,919 Most completions in a season by a rookie: 259

A) Teddy B is far from proven. I wouldn't have minded if we got him but I'm not crying about missing him either. Like I said earlier, other than a short stretch under Sean Peyton he's been Trubisky 2.0 statistically.
B) Cam's best play is behind him. He has never been a good pocket passer (something Nagy's system requires accuracy he and Mitch don't have). The days where his elite athleticism could dominate despite the above are likely over. The guy took a total beating last few years.
C) Median for the NFL would be a #16.5 rank so, if we were #20, that's basically average/slightly below. And that's with a crap O, no running game, and playing from behind a lot last year. So Let's drop the crap about the Bears OL being a sieve in pass pro as it simply isn't true. They were one of the league's best in 2018 as well.
Watching nfl NFL network the last few days they are really hammering home how different this year is to past fa periods.
Teams inability to meet the players face to face and have their doctors look them over is a big hindrance for guys like Cam and Clowney.
Also players not getting to know the coaches with face to face meetings to get comfortable with the coaching staff.
Add in the inability for these players to not go to gyms to work out, and likely a delay to camps and tc. Which is why Foles made a ton of sense for Chicago, he is familiar w/the RPO style that Nagy wants, and the rest of the O staff has worked w/him in the past*hint why many in Chicago think he has the edge over Mitch to start*
They are actually talking about Foles right now, and they are saying he is coming in as the backup, but there will be an quick hook if mitch isnt showing anything. One of the great things about Foles is there is no ego, he will help the other qb starter or backup. One of three talking said they think foles is starting week 1. There will be real competition.
