Come on man.....
Putting Beasley aside, it's kind of a stretch to call Floyd "a key contributor on one of the best defenses in the league". He's not a bad player I agree but that's an overstatement.
He was so "key" that his own team didn't want to re-sign him.
He was so "key" that his own team rescinded his 5th year option (which was a mistake obviously in the first place) and lost a certain comp pick in the process.
He was so "key" that his team immediately replaced him with a player that is several years OLDER.
He was so "key" that the LA Rams only gave him a 1 year contract for $10m. Apparently, Floyd's market across the league wasn't that great.
Floyd is a solid player and decent starter we all agree. But when you consider he was a top-10 pick we traded UP to get, it wasn't a spectacular return on investment. I'd give it a C- grade as a draft pick.
Callahan was a starter....let go
Amukamara was a starter...let go
Kwiatowski was a (partial) starter...let go
There's "key" and then there's "KEY". Floyd was lowercase key because he's pretty replaceable. If he wasn't, he would been retained or commanded a big contract on the open market. Neither happened so it seems 31 other teams also judged him similarly.
The guy had 4 years starting surrounded by some pretty good defensive talent as you recognize...and he failed to step up as expected. He had every chance to earn a big 2nd contract and didn't.
