Which is why I've always said that if I had to choose between Nagy or Mitch, I'd go w/ the latter. Call me crazy but I refuse to believe that somehow Mitch lost all his talent in one offseason. He was a pretty decent QB in 2018 and we all saw what he's capable of. We practically had the exact same offense as in 2018 but somehow, nothing seemed to work. Why's that?
Because back in 2018, all the other teams and no film and no idea how to prepare for this new team. Everything went well. 12-4. Playoffs. Coach of the year.
And then came 2019. Same offense, same players, same coach.
The only difference was, teams had simply started figuring out Nagy's very predictable playbook.
Hold on...this no film thing that you and MP and some others have said is just false. There are 16 games in a season...did the NFL not get any film on the Bears until after the season ended? Stop it. They had film...the team was better Nagy's first year than it was last year...specifically on the o-line.
The same was shown during the Trestman era.
#4 in points per game in 2013 #23 in points per game in 2014
It takes time for teams to recognize a pattern. Outside of losing Howard this offense was the same as last year. Now did Howard make that much of an impact last year? He was #6 in rushing that year. A top 10 running back...
Not saying he was a difference maker but he was the only major difference of 2018 and 2019...

There is a space between absolution and damnation for Nagy - no one is as good or bad as we the fans make them out to be.
I’d like to see him succeed because I like him and think he’s the smartest coach we’ve had in town in a damn long time. His temperament is great, IMO, and guys like him tend to get misread by fans and the media.
I point to last year’s playoff loss to the Iggles as proof positive of both great and bad from him. His script sucked and failed, but damn did he and Mitch execute to come back before ultimate failure. Microcosm of both guys‘ careers and abilities in that game.

I love that ^^^^^
I've been on these Bears messageboards for several years now and the only "constant" is that we (fans) overreact to most everything and we often see things in absolute stark "black and white" and incapable of understanding that there are "shades of gray" with people and life. We think 1 single factor is responsible for a team's performance (good or bad) and can't comprehend that a professional sports team is one heck of a complex entity with multiple contributing factors that are responsible for outcomes that we see.
It's a "human thing" that goes beyond sports. We see it now in how people react to politics in our country. Humans are pretty weird when you think about it. LOL, I blame Jerry Angelo :-)

Again, this is false. It doesn't take a whole season to pick up on patterns...hell, it doesn't take 3 weeks to pick up on patterns. If HS coaches can do it with a quarter of the tech the NFL has, NFL coaches sure as shit can. Also, we've covered in depth how different this offense was than it was last year.
Also...in what universe does 935 rushing yards make you a top 6 back? Might want to check that stat again chief. Yardage matters. Howard was 6th in the league in ATTEMPTS in 2018, he was 14th in YARDS. You shouldn't look at his ranking in yards per attempt...it might hurt your heart. Ah hell...I'll tell you anyway...Howard was 39th in yards per attempt in 2018!
