"Harris is a solid, reasonable pickup for Nagy and company. He has a minimal injury history (he has missed just two games in the past five seasons, and he will automatically be a better blocker at the position than anyone currently on the team’s roster."
Nice signing. Only 28 years old. 6 yrs experience.
It's a fine value signing I agree.
Add a mid-round draft pick and I think we are ok if Burton is back to 100%. I think Pace should be very leery of signing high-priced injury-prone FA TEs like Henry or Ebron.

I'd rather spend that $ on an OL.

Exactly. While I love to see the splashy signings, I have to remind myself that a roster also needs role players like this too. My hope is that Pace meticulously builds this 2020 roster leaving no loose ends. Even a role player or a depth player is important in the grand scheme of things. And I truly did like this signing. I think this is a guy who can make the team a bit better. Sounds like a rock solid blocker and we sure need one.

While cap space can almost always be created (every year there's teams in "cap hell" who make it work), barring extraordinary measures the Bears are going to have only modest room for new signings. I'm being realistic--we are probably looking at space for a #2 QB and an OL and that's about it. Anything else is gonna be bargain, prove-it type deals only.
At TE, the available players (Olsen already signed elsewhere) are all more-expensive-than-"bargain" and all have significant injury histories and concerns. We already have that on the roster with Burton who isn't going anywhere for 2020. So, Pace should just draft a guy, cut Shaheen, and go into the season with Burton, a draft pick, and the depth guys we already have.
We are set at TE now, cos Burton is not going anywhere. Add a pick and thats it. Good sign on paper.
i agree, there are three guys on the roster that overall are slightly better than top 3 last year. 3 spot will be interesting and make preseason something.
