Alright, so I've been thinking about this for a few days. We all know that we desperately need to upgrade our OL, however this could be kind of a challenge given that four out of five starters are currently under contract, or so I think.
And now I just read that Kyle Long is suggesting we add another power back (thx for posting that tweet, Dave).
So, what if we trade Cohen for a 3rd or 4th round pick and go hard after Derrick Henry?
Length: Five years Total value: $71.375 million Guaranteed money: $45 million Average annual value: $14.275 million Guarantees left after year three (age 29): $4.2 million Guarantees left after year four (age 30): $1.8 million
Imagine what our running game would look like w/ Henry & Montgomery splitting carries and Castillo working his magic on the OL? Throw in a decent new OG prospect and I believe our offense could actually do a 180.
To all you cap space gurus, would that be even possible?

Not to blow up your dreams but as someone else said "They didn't hire Nagy to run the Power I". Henry doesn't exactly scream West Coast offense.

I think Nagy made that statement about not being hired to run the power I, when he was just overwhelmed a bit. He isn't a complete idiot. If you can't run the ball effectively - at all - it doesn't matter what you run as an offense - you're screwed. Even the dynamic KC Chiefs offense (in the playoffs) greatly benefited by Damien Williams runs. It's not an either/or thing. It's great to have that weapon in your arsenal... you can't have too many weapons in the NFL. Our problem is the opposite - the arsenal here is empty on offense. Can't run. Can't pass. Can't catch. Can't block.
The ideal would be to pick up a power runner in the draft. I'd be okay if Pace traded down a bit with one of the 2nd round picks. We also have a comp pick coming, right? Maybe there's a guy we can grab. LOL, I'm just spit-balling on this :-)
On offense, my "wish list" is getting longer every day... I want "one of everything" now.

That's cute that you think Cohen is worth a 3rd or 4th round pick in trade LOL.
He might bring a 7th. A 6th at absolute best.
Fans almost always overvalue the trade value of their own team's players. Cohen is a 2-down gadget player coming off a poor season who has only 1 year left on his rookie contract. No one is giving up a mid-round pick for him.

We also should mention that we had an all Pro, HoFer soon to be WWE belt holder, Stanley cup winner and all knowing RB Howard that we got rid of. Gave away actually and he could be a power back with one leg tied to one of his arms.

My point was, can we even afford a guy like Henry who's projected to earn $14MM per year, or not? Because if we can, this should be a no-brainer.
When you have a shot at a real playmaker, you take it. If the only reason we don't go after him is because he "doesn't fit Nagy's system", than this franchise is dumber than I thought. And honestly, I have no idea how much is worth Cohen, but to be fair, if we were able to get Henry, I would give em Cohen for free and not look back.

don't think so. 14mil for a rb when they need a te, ilb, safety and cb and rg and backup potential starter at qb, and probably need more help at wr to boot. 14mil for a rb is something you do when the rb is going to be the focal point, 25-30+ carries. The Bears can barely find 20 carries for a rb.

What's the point in getting a 14 million dollar running back to only use him a few times for Nagy to abandon the run?

I'm with Ric on this one.
Nagy simply doesn't know how to pound the rock. It's not in his blood. He's not alone in that--if Shanahan had run the ball in the 4th Q, he's be a Super Bowl winning coach right now.
Besides, Henry would be too expensive and he's probably not getting out of Tennessee anyway.
