Biggs says that due to contract investment the only position on the OL that will change in 2020 is RG. The other 4 are locks to be back. Here's a blurb from the article:
LINK "You can question some of the moves that have been made, but the contracts are going to keep these players in place at least for the 2020 season. So when you talk about help, I think you need to focus on right guard and the idea that they could add some developmental players via the draft, grooming them for roles in 2021 or beyond."

I've been saying that since November. Anyone expecting a wholesale turnover of the OL is living in a dream world.
Sign a RG, draft an OT (for the future, probably won't start in 2020) and that's it.

Don't get your hopes up for anything beyond that.
That's how I see it too. I do hope they get an absolute stud at RG though. I also hope they get a young project T on the roster so that he can step up in 2021 as a starter at RT. Other than those two moves, I hope Leno get back to better play, looking more like the 2018 Leno. And I really expect Whitehair and Daniels to be just fine if they simply let them play in their positions without swapping them back and forth. Hopefully the new coach will put these guys in a place where they can maximize their skills and be solid. I absolutely believe this is a possible outcome for this season. Will it happen? I don't know. But I don't think it is unreasonable to think it very well may happen. It gives me hope for this season.

This is something MP pointed out before the end of the playoffs. Ya it's going to be a struggle. I get Leno, Whitehair and Daniel not going anywhere; I never understood the Massie 2nd contract, and it's going to bite them in the ass now. Hopefully they get a high quality RG.

+1
The thing that puzzles me is that even Bobby Massie had a downturn in 2019. He's never been a great OL, but he was a "serviceable" RT in 2018. Pro Football Network had him graded out as one of the better RTs in 2018. I don't believe that is accurate, but he did look "okay" that year. Then last year he looked terrible. Every single OL regressed in 2019. I just find it weird that the entire offensive line unit looked as bad as it did... even when considering Long's issues and the switching of Whitehair and Daniels. It was such a precipitous drop in 1 year from '18 to '19 that I found it totally strange.

It will be interesting to see the boards on these draftees and how they start to slot late 1/early 2 where we always see a run on the secondary crop. There's a lot of young OL in this draft I would love to see in a Bears uniform. At least a handful of guys I see as capable day one starters in that group. The right player there has as much impact potential as anywhere for us.

Dont steal my dreams! No matter how unrealistic i know them to be. It helps pass the time in the darkness of despair after a wasted season of futility.

I understand your concerns but I also understood why Pace did it and don't fault him.
At the time (last offseason), Massie had spent 3 years with the Bears as RT. He struggled at first but then gradually and steadily improved as time went on. He was also very very durable--think he had missed only 1 start in 3 years. By the time last offseason arrived, he was the best OT slated to hit FA (yes, I know he's no star but prime-age, injury-free starting OTs don't tend to reach FA very often).
So, I get why Pace chose to extend him at the time, especially considering the team had very little draft capital to work with in 2019.
You're right that last season's results have made that decision look questionable. The whole OL struggled, Massie included, and then he suffered his first significant injury in almost 4 years.
Fortunately, this years draft class is considered very deep at OT so Pace MUST DRAFT ONE DAY 2 IMO and he also has Bars and Coward to take a look at for RT this summer. Massie will be in that mix too because, as Biggs pointed out, he's uncut-able right now. That will give the team 4 players (Bars, Coward, Massie, & draftee) to look at for RT--best man wins.
