What do you guys think about trying to draft a starting QB?

Ric I don't deny there have been some decent #2 type QB prospects in the last few years who may have been developed but how does that help a team that's devoid of talent on the OL to even protect who they have and on defense to run a 3-4 scheme as they wanted to do?I'm sorry to disagree with you 'cause you know I seldom do (insert Pinocchio smiley here) but ya' gotta build from the lines outward and both needed some serious infusion of talent. Pick a QB drafted in the last couple of year, even Garoppolo and can you honestly tell me we'd have been better off with that pick than with Goldman or Whitehair? Two starters vs a backup QB with some potential to some day become a #1 and a third 3rd round starter in an injured Grasu.
I would also love to have a more stable situation at the #2 QB spot but not at the expense of spending a pick on a player I feel can start for me in year one or two over a speculative pick of a QB who at best won't start for at least two years. Let's build the foundation of the house first before we pick out the paint color.
You can build the OL and DL and get a qb; there are 3 picks in every draft in the first 3 rounds(unless your Angelo and trade them away), and you can get OC's and OG's after the those rounds. Depending on what your looking for in the DL(not penetrator) you can likely get those in the mid draft also. Even if not, again 2 of 3 could have been gotten in the draft w/a QB.
We do agree though, best thing you can give a rookie QB is a strong OL and outlet(TE/good WR) as well as a RB...which btw they had and gave up when they got rid of Bennett, Forte and Slauson.
Does Cutler hold the ball too long at times? Yes, and so do 31 other QBs which is why they get sacked as well. Let's not pretend he's the only one whose the victim of coverage sacks and with better WRs now maybe that won't happen as often. We'll see. Also Cutler never has thrown to guys on the break unless he trusts them to be where he throws and there are few he's ever had that much trust in. With his arm he also doesn't have to do that. He'd rather "fit the widow" or make the back shoulder throw which he's as good at as any QB in the NFL.
What I've been trying to point of for years, and feel I can because I've seen him his entire career not just his career in Chicago, is that the way you get a great QB out of him is to go with what he does best and stop trying to make him into something he isn't. Last year, and for the very first time since coming to Chicago, he finally got an OC who knew that and did it. Cutler responded with his best performance as a Bears QB in his first year in that offense without his best receivers playing most of the year and Matt Forte missing three games. Wow. His QBR and Aaron Rodgers were within tenths of a point of each other.
These are the simple facts Ric. Not my opinions. My opinion has never been that Cutler isn't all he's cracked up to be it's that he's seldom if ever played up to his true potential but there are signs that he's about to finally get there. Forget what was and look at what is. If anything he's on a short leash that gets even shorter next year so he needs to reach his potential now not five years from now and from where I sit he's working damn hard to do it.
I can't tell you whether he can win a SB and neither can you but as it stands we now have a better shot at it with him than we have in years and Fox and Pace will ride that train until proven different. He's gonna get his shot and it always pisses me off when Bears fans root against that.
And it damn well should.
