I couldn't give it to anyone. It was a bad team playing a worse team. Bad football. I finally turned the TV off. I have better things to do with my time than watch a butt ugly football game like that. Neither of those two teams are playing NFL-quality football. I see better football than that with local high school games.

I agree with JABF here. That was a butt ugly win vs a butt ugly opponent. If Bears had been playing well all season, we would be saying: "had on off game but glad we got the W". Instead what we saw today was the same crappy offensive football we have seen all season. The only difference between today (besides the quality of the opposition) and the crapfests of the last 3 weeks, was that Trub was able to uncork two nice throws that went for TDs. Other than that, it was the same old chit.
Nagy still calls cutesy plays that don't work and can't scheme a running attack to save his life. Mitch is still a struggling QB that doesn't recognizes blitzes or know what to do when they come (takes bad sacks too often). He hasn't earned the 2020 job and won't IMO. The OL is still sucking, particularly at getting any push in the run game. Gave up 5 sacks too to a weak D.
Trubisky had 176 yards passing I believe. The whole O produced something like 240 yards of total offense. That's completely inept at home against a terrible defense missing several starters. Outside of the 3 TD drives mid-game, the offense had 9 other possession all of which ended in punts with very few sustained drives or first downs. They couldn't even ice the game with 3 minutes left in the 4th. About the only good things you can say O-wise was that Mitch made two nice TD throws and no one turned the ball over. That's pretty much it.
Other than changing the final W-L numbers, this game didn't mean anything positive going forward. IMO, the arc of the team is still downward and the O is still far below the level it needs to be for an NFL team to be a playoff contender. Nagy will put upbeat spin on it post-game, but nothing has changed. All the same problems remain and there's no significant improvement.
I'm looking at these last 8 games of 2019 as an extension of the 2020 preseason. In that light, today showed me:
Chi should re-sign Kwiatowski (who shouldn't cost much) and let Trevathan walk in FA for a 2021 comp pick. That's the wise decision in the long run. Gave Kwiat the game ball today--really rock solid outing with a sack and a pick.
Shaheen is a goner, good riddance.
If there's a way to unload Burton, I'd do that too. Dude sucks.
Nick Williams has been a solid find. Definitely keep him around
Taylor Gabriel can go, think we need the cap $ more

This post saved me a lot of typing. I gave the ball to Nick also. He has really stepped up from a year or two ago. He used to be a liability, now he's playing well.
Sucks to see Travathan hurt, but he's prbably gone next year too, let the youngsters get some experience. My 2018 banner boy Taylor Gabriel sure hasn't played up to his potential, agree with above we could use his cap money more than his performance.
I thought Trubs looked good the few plays where our O Line actually gave him a pocket.
Nagy Nagy Nagy. Dude can not call a play. Just like the CFL game, Arena ball doesn't work in the big boy league.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Just because he had one good game against a very bad team on a backup QB doesn't automatically mean we should just let Trevathan walk. Kwiatowski biggest issue is against the pass. I want to see more tap against real NFL starters before we put the crown on him.

Been critical of Trubs and my position on him going forward hasn't changed but yeah I agree the key difference on the 3 good drives compared to the 9 shitty ones was the OL actually gave Mitch (and Monty) a chance. Credit where credit is due, Mitch made two beautiful throws there.
The OL woes aside ( and I agree they have struggled all year), Mitch does need to be able to make plays when things aren't ideal however and he's not doing that enough. Making nice throws in perfect/near-perfect conditions is good but not good enough. He also needs to be able to recognize coverages, beat blitzes, not take long sacks, and make tough throws under pressure if he's gonna succeed as an NFL QB. He doesn't do those things nearly well or often enough which is why he's not putting up better numbers.
On Nagy, we are in agreement there too. His run game sucks and I think they need to get a new OC and take playcalling away from him for 2020.

Kwiat was rock solid against Minnesota too which is a far better team than Detroit.
Danny T turns 30 this offseason and is a FA (so is Kwiat) and you can't pay everybody. I'd let Trev go, harvest a 2021 comp pick, re-sign Nick, and draft another ILB. The draft pick, Kwit, and Iggy can compete for the starting job next year next to Roq.
Don't forget we need to sign a QB (and draft one too) to compete with Mitch next year and replace Daniel & Bray. Both will likely be gone.

Explain to me which run play works when the OL doesn't block the guys their supposed to?
The few run plays that worked were plays where blocks were actually made. It's execution. That's it.
