That's my take on it too, Ric. It is too simple to just point at one failed piece (Trubisky) as the end-all cause of this mess. There is no way you can have a team that is THIS screwed up - and blame it all on the QB. This is painful football to watch on gamedays. LOL, and this is from a guy who has watched many years of bad Chicago Bears teams. It's like the team isn't ready to play on gameday. They look so poorly prepared and the coaches and players can't for the life of them execute well.
But I will say this. While I have watched many bad seasons of Bears football over the past 55+ years, I can't remember a Bears team that embarrassed me MORE than this one. I've seen seasons that were equally bad, I guess, but none more embarrassing to watch. I feel about as bad (and honestly maybe more badly) than how I felt watching Trestman's 2nd year team perform. Sure, the defense is better now than then, even when it does under-perform this year. But the inept offense more than makes up for the level of suck here. And John Fox's teams did not make me feel any worse than I feel now after watching a total clown show on gamedays. Holy cow. This is butt-ugly football. As you would say Ric, turrible football to watch. Turrible.
We all know the OL hasn’t performed like we thought it would (and should).
We all know Monty shouldn’t drop that screen pass and Robinson probably should have caught that deep ball even though it was under-thrown.
We all know the TEs have sucked (though that shouldn’t have been a surprise since they sucked late last year too).
We all know the defense isn’t playing at a league-dominating level and isn’t getting TOs like it did much of last season.
But....holy crap, can’t believe I have to say this...the QB is far and away the biggest problem on the field. The QB has impact, positive or negative, on the overall teams performance way, way, way more than any other single player. When your QB is royally crapping the bad, that poo rolls downhill onto everyone else. It’s very very hard for any other offensive player to “look good” when the QB is terrible. I’d argue it’s pretty hard for the defense as a whole to look good when the offense can’t score points and can’t even get 1st downs drive after drive after drive, game after game after game.
With just league-average QB play, I’d argue we are no worse than 5-3 today, quite possibly 6-2. The ONLY game this year Chicago fell well behind in early was the Oakland game and even there the and STs got us right back in it by half. Every other game, the Bears have been IN at least until the late 3rd quarter.
The offense has to score! Which means the QB has be better than 10 of 25, 125 yards, 0 TDs, 4 sacks!
QB by far is the most pressing need and problem right now.
Trubisky hasn’t thrown a TD pass outside of garbage time since the 3rd quarter of week 3!!!!!
Think about that. Let that sink in for a minute.
No. No. No. We all know the reason we are so bad this year is due to Howard, AKA "The Mighty and Magnificent One" being traded. It all went downhill from there :-)
