It's OBVIOUS that there are more issues than just the QB here...but very few it seem want to admit that. A new QB won't do a thing if none of the other issues are fixed. Thats OBVIOUS.
Would Mitch look better if he had a top-5 OL? Of course
Would he look better if his receivers had fewer drops? Sure
Would he look better if his HC were doing a better job adapting? I have no doubt
We made all those same excuses for Jay Cutler year after year.
Mitch Trubisky simply can't effectively execute the offensive scheme Matt Nagy wants to use. If he had the skillset to do so, he would be improving at it and growing more comfortable and facile over time. Instead, he is regressing and becoming more and more lost and sloppy mechanically.
It's actually hard to describe how bad he was today. He airmailed 3 different open receivers in one series, he left the bomb to Robinson short or it would have been a TD, he took 3-4 sacks by just being utterly clueless in pocket awareness, he laughably missed a simple 5 yard out on 3rd down for the umpteenth time this season, and looked all in all worse than a clueless, awkward deer in the headlights out there. The fact that he made a couple plays in the 2nd half changes nothing--every NFL QB can make a few plays here and there.
Sorry, man, I wish it weren't so but its painfully obvious Trubisky is a fail....at least as a QB for Matt Nagy.
Yeah, I mean for me I just can't sweep away the other things I see. Would I love to just say "I told you so, I was right"...I mean that would feel good, but I just can't pin all this on Trubisky.
You can call the things you listed excuses...but I call them reasons. And I'd settle for a top 16 offensive line...this line is not playing anything close to that! I don't even think Nagy is doing a lot of the things he wants to do because of the offensive line. I think he expected Trubs to be inconsistent...or at least he should have. What he didn't expect was the offensive line to be the hot garbage it is. Thats my take on it. So you can take that as a defense of Trubs if you want, even though I've been critical of him, but I would say I'm just assigning blame to all the parties that bear it.
For instance, on that third down out route that you put all the blame on Trubs for...this is what was at his feet as he was throwing:
He's got his center getting blasted back into him and the pocket collapsing which doesn't allow him to take the proper steps to deliver a good ball. You can call this an excuse if you want, but this is the reason why the throw isn't accurate. It is what it is.
This is the pressure on Trubisky when he got to the third step of his drop FROM THE SHOT GUN!!!
I mean I don't care who you are...what is he supposed to do with that? How does that help him succeed? Name me the QB who could make something with that?
The throw to Robinson...should it have had more air under it? Sure...but last I checked Robinson is our #1 he's supposed to catch that, and he should have caught it...it's a catch that every #1 receiver makes.
