Most of Pagano's career has been as a defensive coach. Before becoming the Colts HC in 2012, he was the defensive secondary coach for the Ravens (2008 - 2010) and then the Ravens DC in 2011. His units performed well.
LINK Pagano, 58, was the Ravens defensive coordinator in 2011, when they went 12-4 and ranked third in total defense, third in points allowed, second against the run, fourth against the pass and third in sacks. Before that he served as defensive backs coach for the Ravens, Raiders and Browns.
“We are excited to add Chuck to our staff as defensive coordinator,” Nagy said in a team statement. “He has successful experience at many different levels in this league, and he is a great teacher with an aggressive mentality that fits our style of football. He is a man of high character and has a passion for the game that will no doubt add to the culture we have already started building at Halas Hall.”
The Bears put an emphasis on finding a replacement with a background in 3-4 defensive schemes to take over the NFL’s No. 1 scoring defense. With Pagano’s experience in 3-4 defenses, there should be some continuity. He worked with Fangio with the Ravens in 2008-09.
What's the angle? This seems out of left field for me, but i haven't stopped drinking since Jan. 6th...ok i never stopped since the 90's
But seriously....
Angle? Not quite sure why you think there is one. He's a 3-4 guy, he runs an aggressive style of defense, he's a great teacher/developer of young talent...

And his only good resume point is he was a Defensive backs coach and DC for a defense that is, and will always be, compared to the 85 Bears and other great defenses of All-Time... ...but Bal didn't win it all until he left for Indy as a HC in charge of it all, and that defense went to shit over time LINK
I'll gladly eat crow if this works out lol but i'm skeptical at this point that he can do anything without an all-star roster...Indy's last year for him as HC is just embarrassing on all levels after 6 years of being HC...Cleveland Brown embarrassing lol
