Huge loss for the D imo.
Sad to see him go but on the other hand I can understand why he's leaving. He's turning 61 this summer, who knows how many other opportunities he's going to get? And it's not like he's been a Bear for 30 years and is now turning his back on his Bears family.
And yes, this is the downside of winning many games and being division champs. Teams will take notice and go after your personnel.
My question is, can we convince Ed Donatell to be DC ... Can he call plays or is he just a Vic lackey (for a lack of better term)?
I reckon he follows him to Denver.
Depends in Chicago Donatell would be THE DC, and THE head of all things def. In DEN he'll be DC in name only as Fangio is going to be the defensive playcaller.
If Donatell wants to up his visability he'd stay in Chicago if that's an option.

Everything that I can piece together indicate that Donatel is the main reason behind the improvement in our defensive secondary. I wouldn't mind of he became our DC.
Good luck to Vic, certainly would have preferred if he stayed. I have confidence that the Bears can attract a strong replacement. We have good players and Matt has shown he can let the DC be his own person. Matt has grown as a coach this year and doesn’t seem to have an ego problem relying on the defense to finish a game. The only apprehension that I have is a coach that would move away from the 3-4 schemes, because of the time it has taken to build th team back up.
